Job Description and Duties

Under the close supervision of the Senior Environmental Scientist (Supervisory) for the Wildlife Biodiversity Program, the incumbent provides technical expertise on game bird species and performs population assessment, analysis, research and monitoring; habitat assessment, Department land management and acquisition; regulatory compliance for various job aspects, hunting regulation proposals, and public outreach. The incumbent will also manage public use activities including hunting and fishing; coordinate hunter outreach and special hunting activities of the Game Bird Heritage Program, and implement the activities based on established 5-year plans. The incumbent is also the Reserve Manager for San Felipe Valley Lands complex and other Lands as the need arises. The incumbent is responsible for daily management and monitoring for the lands in coordination with multiple agencies and non-governmental stakeholders, with the goal of conserving the rich biological diversity of the region while providing compatible public use opportunities.

Working Conditions

Office will be located in the San Diego Office. Availability and willingness to work flexible hours (evening meetings, Saturday/Sundays events, holidays), travel overnight up to 5%, routinely conduct field work in wet and dry conditions carrying bulky items throughout the region's watersheds, may need to carry up to 40 lbs. in uneven terrain in inclement weather or excessive heat, and to work for hours at a time in front of the computer, at meetings or in traffic situations going to and from meetings or field visits. Possession of a valid driver license.

3. Describe your experience working and/or leading invasive species control, using herbicide, working with hand tools, and restoration efforts.

4. Describe you experience in interacting with the public, other agencies and/or partners during a work assignment.

5. Describe any experience in coordinating hunting programs.

Desirable Qualifications

In addition to evaluating each candidate's relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate:

• Knowledge of wildlife taxa species and their habitats in Southern California.
• Experience in invasive species control, use of herbicide, restoration, and other land management practices.
• Experience in managing and surveying for upland game birds and their habitats.
• Excellent written and spoken communication skills, organizational skills, flexibility, strong personal initiative, and negotiation skills.
