Description

IDR is seeking an experienced Enterprise Solutions Architect to join one of our top clients in Denver, CO, Minneapolis, MN, or Amarillo, TX. This opportunity is ideal for a seasoned technology professional who has progressed from hands-on software development into solution architecture—bringing a strong understanding of enterprise application design, systems integration, and GIS technologies.

The ideal candidate has experience architecting complex technical solutions within large-scale, highly regulated enterprise environments (e.g., utilities/energy, telecommunications, financial services, healthcare). We’re looking for someone who owns architectural decisions and can design scalable, secure, and sustainable solutions across complex organizations.

Position Overview

  • Lead the architecture, design, and integration of enterprise GIS solutions, aligning with broader technology strategy and business objectives.

  • Own end-to-end solution architecture: technical design decisions, integration patterns, scalability, security, and long-term maintainability.

  • Leverage a strong software development background to guide engineering teams and translate business requirements into effective architectures.

  • Architect within large, distributed enterprise environments, navigating complex ecosystems, governance requirements, and regulatory considerations.

  • Design and oversee integrations between GIS platforms (GE Smallworld and/or Esri) and other enterprise applications, databases, and business systems.

  • Collaborate with enterprise architects, software developers, infrastructure teams, and business stakeholders to establish technical direction and architectural standards.

  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship throughout the SDLC.

  • Evaluate existing architectures, identify modernization opportunities, and recommend scalable solutions supporting long-term initiatives.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or equivalent professional experience.

  • Demonstrated career progression from Software Developer/Engineer (or similar) into a formal Solution Architect / Enterprise Architect role.

  • Proven experience operating in a true architecture capacity (designing solutions, defining standards, making architectural decisions, guiding teams).

  • Experience delivering enterprise-level solutions within large, highly regulated organizations (utilities/energy, telecom, financial services, healthcare preferred).

  • 6+ years delivering GIS solutions using GE Smallworld and/or Esri, including integration with broader enterprise applications.

  • Strong understanding of enterprise application architecture, systems integration, distributed systems, and scalable software design.

  • 3+ years hands-on software development experience using stacks such as MEAN, LAMP, Microsoft .NET, or comparable enterprise frameworks.

  • 3+ years working with relational databases such as SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL, or similar.

  • Experience collaborating across multiple technical teams and business units within nationally/globally distributed organizations.

  • Strong communication skills—able to explain architectural decisions, trade-offs, and solution strategies to technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Utilities/energy sector experience supporting electric, gas, or other critical infrastructure operations.

  • Background working within enterprise architecture governance frameworks, security standards, or regulatory compliance requirements.

  • Experience integrating GIS with enterprise systems (ERP, asset management, work management, operational technology).

  • Experience supporting modernization, enterprise transformation, or large-scale systems integration initiatives.

  • Prior experience as a Senior Software Engineer, Technical Lead, or Lead Developer before moving into architecture.
