Commodity Supplier Quality Engineer - Waterloo, IA

Pay: 37 an hr

Must be USC

We are seeking a Commodity Supplier Quality Engineer to support manufacturing operations and supplier quality initiatives within a fast-paced production environment. This role offers the opportunity to work directly with cross-functional engineering, manufacturing, and supplier teams to drive product quality, resolve complex issues, and implement long-term corrective actions that improve operational performance.

Responsibilities

• Lead investigations and resolution efforts for supplier quality, manufacturing, and customer-related issues, focusing on root cause identification and permanent corrective actions.
• Support quality planning activities for components and assemblies, including supplier changes, resourcing projects, cost reduction initiatives, and current production improvements.
• Conduct design reviews, print reviews, and process assessments to ensure product quality and manufacturability.
• Utilize quality tools and methodologies such as Six Sigma, FMEA, 8D, SPC, MSA, Gage R&R, capability studies, and statistical analysis to identify and prevent quality concerns.
• Partner with suppliers and internal stakeholders to drive continuous improvement initiatives and strengthen quality performance.
• Lead supplier quality improvement activities and facilitate cross-functional problem-solving efforts.
• Analyze engineering data, technical documentation, and product drawings to support quality and manufacturing objectives.
• Monitor project timelines, coordinate with suppliers, and support implementation of engineering and quality improvements.
• Assist in developing and maintaining engineering standards, specifications, and best practices.
• Support ongoing continuous improvement efforts related to quality systems, manufacturing processes, and supplier performance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Manufacturing, Quality, Business, Data Analytics, Communications, Computer Science, or a related field.
• Recent graduates with relevant internship, co-op, academic project, or manufacturing experience are encouraged to apply.
• Experience or knowledge of supplier quality, quality engineering, manufacturing engineering, or process improvement.
• Understanding of quality management principles and tools, including FMEA, SPC, Root Cause Analysis, Control Plans, MSA, and capability studies.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and GD&T.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
• Experience working with cross-functional teams and managing multiple priorities.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
• Self-motivated with a strong willingness to learn and grow within an engineering environment.

Work Environment

• Full-time onsite position in a manufacturing setting.
• Collaborative team environment with exposure to engineering, manufacturing, and supplier operations.
• Opportunity to work directly on the production floor and gain hands-on experience supporting quality and process improvement initiatives.
