Job Summary
The Employment Specialist plays a key role in helping individuals overcome barriers to employment by providing job readiness training, career counseling, and job placement assistance. This position involves working closely with clients, employers, and community partners to develop career pathways and sustainable employment opportunities.
Additionally, the Employment Specialist may take on case management responsibilities, ensuring clients receive comprehensive support services, including housing assistance, mental health referrals, and financial stability resources. This position requires a blend of employment services, case management, and community outreach.
Key Responsibilities Employment
Conduct initial assessments to identify job readiness, skills, interests, and employment barriers.
Develop individualized employment plans that align with clients’ career goals and abilities.
Provide career counseling, resume building, interview coaching, and job application assistance.
Facilitate job readiness workshops covering workplace skills, professionalism, and financial literacy.
Assist clients with obtaining necessary documentation for employment (e.g., IDs, work permits).
Track and document client progress, employment status, and retention efforts.
Conduct comprehensive screenings and assessments to collect psycho-social, financial, employment, and housing information.
Coordinate individualized case plans with clients to address both short- and long-term needs.
Provide service linkages and support systems to ensure identified needs are met.
Offer crisis intervention and problem-solving support as needed.
Advocate for clients with employers, judicial systems, and community service providers.
Collaborate with housing specialists, social workers, and other service providers to ensure clients receive wraparound services.
Build and maintain strong relationships with local employers, workforce development agencies, and training providers.
Identify and secure job placement opportunities tailored to clients' skills and goals.
Advocate for clients by educating employers on inclusive hiring practices and accommodations.
Coordinate job fairs, recruitment events, and networking opportunities for clients.
Stay updated on labor market trends, in-demand careers, and vocational training opportunities.
Maintain accurate records, case notes, and reports to measure program outcomes and impact.
Ensure compliance with grant and funding requirements related to employment services.
Qualifications & Requirements
Education: High School Diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s or Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Human Services, Workforce Development, or a related field preferred.
Experience: At least 1 year of experience in workforce development, career counseling, case management, or a related field.
Strong knowledge of job search strategies, career pathways, and local employment resources.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) and database management.
Excellent communication, networking, and relationship-building skills.
Ability to work with diverse populations, including at-risk youth and individuals facing employment barriers.
Strong organizational and time management skills.
Must be able to pass a fingerprint clearance, background check, and employment verification.
Preferred Qualifications Experience working with homeless or justice-involved individuals. Familiarity with workforce development programs such as WIOA, apprenticeship programs, or vocational training. Bilingual (Spanish or other languages) is a plus.
Work Environment & Physical Demands Work may involve occasional travel for job fairs, employer meetings, or community outreach. Ability to work under circumstances of possible emotional stress and conflict. Ability to maintain punctual attendance and meet program deadlines.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $20.00 - $21.00 per hour
Expected hours: 40 per week
