    Emergency Communications Specialist · Shift Work · 24.01-34.01/hr.

    Shift Work | 9-1-1 Dispatch | Police Department | Certifications Provided

    THE REALITY OF THIS ROLE

    • You will take calls at 2 a.m. from people in the worst moments of their lives - and you will be

    the calm they desperately need.

    • You will simultaneously manage multiple active incidents, track officer locations, relay critical

    information, and make split-second decisions - all without leaving your chair.

    • You won't carry a badge or wear a vest, but the officers, firefighters, and paramedics in the

    field will depend on you completely.

    • This is not a stepping stone to something else. This is the job - and it takes everything you've

    got.

    ABOUT THE ROLE

    The City of Katy Emergency Communications Center is the nerve center of public safety operations

    for our community. As an Emergency Communications Specialist, you are the link between a citizen in

    crisis and the help that saves them. You will handle 9-1-1 and non-emergency calls across Police,

    Fire, and Medical channels, dispatch personnel using computer-aided dispatch systems, maintain

    critical data records in local, state, and national systems, and serve as an essential resource

    after hours for animal control, public works, and parks.

    This position is designated Critical Personnel. During disasters or catastrophic events, you may be

    required to remain on duty and perform duties beyond your normal scope to protect the continuity of

    City operations.

    WHAT YOU'LL HANDLE EVERY SHIFT

    Multi-Channel Call Intake

    9-1-1 and non-emergency calls for Police, Fire, and Medical including TDD systems

    CAD Dispatch

    Real-time dispatch of Police, Fire & EMS via computer-aided dispatch

    Database Operations

    NCIC/TCIC entries, warrants, and SETCIC/TLETS/NLETS system management

    Record Keeping

    Accurate information relay and documentation under high-pressure conditions

    Jail Out-Booking

    Processing subjects from jail including cash payments and bonds

    After-Hours Coordination

    Animal control, public works, and parks dispatch after business hours

    WHO SUCCEEDS HERE

    A high school diploma is the minimum - but the people who thrive in this role bring far more. We're

    CERTIFICATIONS REQUIRED (WITHIN 6 MONTHS)

    • TCOLE Telecommunicator - State of Texas
    • EMD Certification - Emergency Medical
    • EFD Certification - Emergency Fire
    • CPR Certification - Required
    • NCIC / TCIC - Certification req.
