Job Title: Educational Diagnostician Contract Days: 207 Reports to: Director of Special Education Dept/School: Instructional Support Center -Special Education Pay Grade: AD 02 Wage/Hour Status: Exempt Funding Source: Local Revision Date: May 2024 Primary Purpose: Coordinate the special education assessment process for designated schools. Qualifications: Education/Certification: Master's degree Texas educational diagnostician or other appropriate Texas certificate Valid Texas teaching certificate with special education endorsement Special Knowledge/Skills: Knowledge of diagnostic procedures, education of special education students, human development, and learning theories Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills Experience: Three years minimum teaching experience Major Responsibilities and Duties: • Assess students to determine eligibility for special education services. • Coordinate the development and implementation of the Individual Educational Plan for identified eligible students. • Ensure compliance with the mandates for due process in federal and state law. • Administer and interpret tests which measure language, perceptual motor -skills, intelligence, adaptive behavior, and academic achievement of students. • Consult with professionals in other fields when speech, physical, medical, and emotional problems are indicated. • Serve as contact person for designated schools for all matters relating to assessment and eligibility for special education services. • Schedule ARD meetings for designated schools with appropriate personnel and parent/adult students. • Observe students in actual classroom situations as needed. • Select appropriate assessment instruments for each child's needs based on available data. • Work closely with special education and regular classroom teachers in improving the instructional program for handicapped students. • Maintain records of information related to assessment needed or local and state reports. • Communicate the philosophy and rationale of the assessment process to schools, parents, and the community. • Assume responsibility for professional growth and development, keeping current with the literature and new research findings, and attending appropriate professional meetings and conventions. • Perform other duties as assigned. Supervisory Responsibilities: None Working Conditions: Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Must maintain emotional control and exercise reasoning and problem -solving skills while under stress. Must demonstrate ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written). Should be able to interpr et procedures and analyze data for decision -making. Frequent in -district and occasional in -state or national travel. Occasional prolonged and irregular hours. Safety: Contribute to the prevention of accidents and injuries by observing safety rules and District policy, practicing the principles and skills taught in safety training, wearing personal protective equipment as required, reporting injuries and incidences immediately to supervisor, and being proactive in the ongoing efforts to improve and maint ain workplace safety.
