SUMMARY:

The Director of People Operations is a strategic, systems-driven leader responsible for building, optimizing, and scaling HR across a multi-site charter school network. This role ensures operational excellence, regulatory compliance, and high-integrity data systems while enabling effective, decentralized hiring across school leaders. As a member of the executive team, this leader reports to the CFO and partners with the Chief of Staff to drive talent strategy, strengthen organizational effectiveness, and support sustainable growth across the organization.

ABOUT THE ROLE:

This role is designed for a tech-savvy, detail-oriented leader who thrives at the intersection of systems, data, and people. You will own and optimize the HR technology ecosystem, streamline processes across the employee lifecycle, and serve as the operational backbone supporting 5 superintendents and 17 principals in hiring and managing their teams.

Once a strong operational foundation is in place, you will partner with executive leadership to implement a formal leadership development program that strengthens administrator effectiveness, retention, and internal mobility.

WHAT YOU'LL DO:

Optimize HR Strategy
Own and optimize the HR technology ecosystem (JazzHR, Frontline, ADP), maximizing automation, reporting, and system capabilities to streamline onboarding, offboarding, benefits administration, and licensure tracking.

Support Talent Acquisition Strategy
Support a decentralized hiring model by equipping superintendents and principals with tools, processes, and guidance while serving as the final quality checkpoint. Evaluate and implement predictive hiring tools to improve candidate selection and efficiency.

Leverage Data
Ensure accurate, clean, and integrated HR data across systems. Leverage insights to inform decision-making, improve workflows, and strengthen organizational effectiveness.

Lead the HR Team
Lead and develop the HR Coordinator and HR Assistant(s) to ensure seamless day-to-day operations. Partner with HR contractors to bring best practices in HR and organizational effectiveness.

Collaborate Cross-Functionally
Collaborate with the Treasurer and Accounting team on payroll and financial integration, and with the Chief of Staff on employee lifecycle management and disciplinary processes.

Ensure Compliance
Maintain adherence to all federal, state, and K-12 regulatory requirements, including BG checks, licensure, and employment practices.

Drive HR Strategy
Refine and standardize HR processes and SOPs. Partner with executive leadership to align HR strategy with organizational priorities and growth objectives.

Develop Leaders
Launch a structured leadership development program for school leaders and central office staff to strengthen capability, retention, and succession planning.

WHO YOU ARE:

You are a high energy, accountable, and results-driven leader who takes pride in setting clear standards and consistently meeting them. You don't wait for perfect conditions; you act, solve problems, and move work forward.

You operate with integrity and sound judgment. You are kind and firm, able to hold expectations and make decisions in the best interest of the organization. You understand the balance between people and performance.

You provide clarity, coaching, and correction with confidence in a decentralized environment. You understand people and team dynamics and navigate them without losing focus on outcomes.

You enjoy building structure, improving systems, and creating consistency. You are energized by growth and change and can step into an evolving environment, build on what exists, and strive for continuous improvement.

You take ownership of outcomes, build culture intentionally, and ensure the organization operates at a consistent, high standard.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR:

  • 8+ years of progressive HR experience, with focus on operations, HRIS management, and systems optimization.
  • Hands-on experience with HRIS platforms such as JazzHR, Frontline, ADP, or similar systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and analyze HR data to drive decisions.
  • Experience evaluating and implementing HR technology solutions, including AI-based or predictive hiring tools.
  • Proven success improving compliance, workflows, and processes in a multi-site or 500+ employee organization.
  • Experience leading and developing team members.
  • Ability to coach, influence, and support decentralized leaders.
  • K-12 education or charter school experience is a plus.
  • Leadership development or training program experience is a plus.

Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, daytime hours, (with occasional flexibility).

Physical Requirements: Primarily sedentary, including extended computer use, with standing, walking, and light lifting as needed. Occasional travel may be required.
