Position Details Position Information Job Type Non-Faculty Position Title Director of Human Resources Position Number E00067 Department Human Resources Location Morehouse College - Atlanta, GA Position Summary The Director of Human Resources provides strategic leadership and operational oversight for the Office of Human Resources in support of the College's mission and institutional priorities. Under the direction of the Associate Vice President of Human Resources (AVPHR), the Director is responsible for leading the development, implementation, and administration of HR programs, policies, and initiatives aligned with the College's strategic plan. The Director serves as a trusted advisor to campus leadership, providing guidance on workforce planning, employee relations, organizational effectiveness, and compliance. This role ensures that human capital strategies support institutional excellence while fostering a culture of accountability, engagement, equity, and continuous improvement Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field. Minimum of 8-10 years of progressively responsible HR experience, including leadership experience. Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Preferred Qualifications Preferred Education/Experience Professional HR certification (SHRM or HRCI) preferred. Experience with Ellucian Banner preferred. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to influence and advise senior leadership. Strong interpersonal, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills. Advanced knowledge of employment laws and HR compliance requirements. Experience managing complex investigations and employee relations matters. Strong analytical skills with ability to interpret HR data and trends. Experience with HRIS systems and workforce analytics including IPEDS reporting. Proven leadership and supervisory skills. Essential Duties/Responsibilities Essential Duties/Responsiblities Partner with campus leadership to develop and implement HR strategies aligned with institutional goals related to workforce planning, recruitment, retention, and organizational effectiveness. Provide leadership and oversight of all core HR functions including talent acquisition, employee relations, compensation, benefits, leave administration, performance management, and training & development. ·Serve as a strategic advisor to leadership on employee relations matters, organizational design, change management, and workforce planning initiatives. Lead and manage complex employee relations issues, including investigations, disciplinary actions, and conflict resolution, in partnership with the Office of General Counsel. Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations and proactively identify and mitigate institutional risk. Develop, implement, and maintain HR policies, procedures, and practices that support operational effectiveness and compliance. Utilize HRIS systems and workforce analytics to assess organizational trends, inform decision-making, and develop data-driven HR strategies. Oversee and ensure accurate and timely reporting of institutional HR data, including IPEDS submissions, in collaboration with Institutional Research and other stakeholders. Ensure data integrity and compliance with federal, accreditation, and reporting requirements. Lead organizational development initiatives including succession planning, leadership development, and process improvement. Promote a culture of equity, inclusion and belonging consistent with the mission and values of the College. Assist AVPHR with developing, managing, and monitoring the Human Resources departmental budget. Provide leadership, supervision, and development of HR staff and oversee daily operations and workflow. Maintain awareness of trends, best practices, and regulatory changes in HR and higher education. Perform other duties as assigned.
