Description

The Director of Finance is a full time, on site position based in South Orange County, at a nonprofit organization, responsible for leading the organization's financial operations from the ground up. This role owns the budgeting and financial planning process, prepares and reviews financial statements, and ensures timely, accurate reporting to executive leadership, the board of directors, and outside funders. The Director of Finance is also responsible for accounting operations, cash flow oversight, and internal controls, while ensuring compliance with nonprofit and grant related financial standards. On a day to day basis, this person will analyze financial trends, build forecasts, process semimonthly payroll, partner with program leadership on departmental budgets, oversee finance staff and/or outside vendors, and help guide financial strategy to support the organization's continued growth and impact.

Qualifications

  • Solid background in finance and financial planning, with the ability to manage budgets, forecasting, and long range financial strategy
  • Strong command of financial statement preparation and reporting practices, ensuring accuracy and transparency
  • Sharp analytical skills, with the ability to translate financial data into actionable insights
  • Hands on experience with nonprofit finance, including grant management, restricted funds, and related compliance requirements
  • Track record of building and maintaining strong internal controls and accounting systems
  • Experience processing payroll, including compliance with applicable federal, state, and local requirements
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, comfortable working across leadership, program teams, auditors, and outside partners
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, or related field; CPA or advanced degree a plus
  • Prior leadership experience overseeing a finance function, ideally including staff or vendor management within a mission driven organization

Salary: $110,000 - $120,000
