The Director of Business Development is responsible for generating new business opportunities, building client relationships, and guiding prospects through the project development and delivery process. This role serves as a primary external representative of the firm and works closely with internal leadership to cultivate and convert a strong pipeline of projects.
This position focuses on relationship building, market engagement, and strategic pursuit of opportunities within the commercial real estate and development community.
Responsibilities
Develop and maintain relationships with clients, developers, brokers, and industry partners
Generate new business through networking, outreach, and market research
Build and manage a pipeline of opportunities from initial contact through project award
Represent the firm at industry events, meetings, and networking functions
Collaborate with internal teams to support pursuit strategies and presentations
Assist in preparing proposals, qualifications packages, and client presentations
Coordinate preliminary project information including scope, schedule, and budget considerations
Guide prospects through early project planning and decision-making
Track opportunities and business development activity within CRM tools
Conduct market research to identify new project opportunities
Maintain and grow long-term client relationships
Support negotiation and execution of project agreements
Coordinate internally with design, preconstruction, and operations teams during pursuits
Provide regular pipeline updates and forecasting to leadership
Participate in strategic planning for market growth and target clients
Qualifications
5+ years of experience in business development, real estate, construction, or related field
Strong understanding of commercial development process
Experience building relationships within the real estate community
Ability to manage multiple pursuits simultaneously
Strong presentation and communication skills
Experience with CRM tracking and pipeline management
Self-motivated with strong networking abilities
Comfortable attending events outside normal business hours
Preferred
Experience in design-build, construction, or architecture-related environment
Existing relationships with developers, brokers, or industry stakeholders
Experience responding to RFQs/RFPs
Knowledge of project budgeting and early project planning
