Director of Special Education Compliance and Alternative Services

Hartford Public Schools | Office of Special Education Services | Salary Range: $149,609 - $162,873

Hartford Public Schools is seeking a strategic, compliance-minded leader to guide districtwide special education accountability and alternative educational services. In this role, youll ensure every student with a disability receives a Free Appropriate Public Education in the Least Restrictive Environment, while overseeing services for students in alternative, interim, homebound, and hospital-based settings.

What Youll Lead:

  • Districtwide compliance with IDEA, Section 504, ADA, and Connecticut special education law
  • IEP quality review, FAPE/LRE monitoring, and CT-SEDS reporting
  • Alternative education programs, including reentry, homebound, and hospital-based instruction
  • Dispute resolution, due process, and Medicaid oversight
  • Professional learning and coaching for compliance facilitators and school-based staff

What You Bring:

  • Advanced degree in special education, educational leadership, or a related field
  • 5+ years of progressive experience in special education or student support services
  • Deep knowledge of IDEA, Section 504, FAPE, LRE, and procedural safeguards
  • Connecticut 092 certification and special education certification required
  • A commitment to equity and to serving students in an urban district

Compensation: Hartford Principals and Supervisors Association collective bargaining agreement | Twelve-month position | Salary Range: $149,609 - $162,873
