The Camps and Outdoor Adventure Director will: - Oversee planning, budgeting, execution and continuous improvement of overnight camps, outdoor adventure programs, and travel experiences.
- Establish, maintain and improve systems and solutions supporting department needs.
- Manage the budget, staffing, marketing, promotion, implementation, etc for summer camp and year-round programs.
- Collaborate with staff, volunteers and community partners to deliver camp, adventure and travel programs designed for personal growth, enhanced relationships and environmental appreciation.
Skills required to be successful in this role, include, but are not limited to: - Experience in the development of youth program activities; Trained in program quality and design
- Strong data management, data analysis, and data application skills to perform day-to-day tactical tasks and longer-term strategy and planning
- Maintenance of team operations and systems of success
- Experience in leading, teaching, and coaching youth program instructors, overnight camp leaders and/or program volunteers in community-based settings
- Strong communication and collaboration skills
Daily, weekly and monthly activities include: Camp, Adventure & Travel Team Supervision: - Manage camp staffing and budget needs; Develop and monitor the camp budget
- Oversee the timely execution of the camp registration process
- Support in the execution of the new hire process, orientation, and training; Provide supervision, individual coaching and mentorship
- Ensure that all staff and volunteer team members are familiar with and follow procedures as required by state, federal and Girl Scouts guidelines
- Provide superior customer service to both internal and external customers (youth, parents/families, staff, volunteers, and vendors)
- Develop and maintain relationships with key volunteers and partners to ensure quality program delivery
- Lead in the development and successful execution of team goals and objectives
- Ensure that the team is compliant and knowledgeable with GSUSA’s philosophy, policies, procedures, standards and best practices
Program Quality Execution and Support: - Make quality decisions by effectively utilizing and assessing data
- Lead staff in designing, implementing and facilitating high-quality member-facing experiences and processes
- Manage the marketing, communication, promotion and distribution of Girl Scouts National Program Portfolio information and camp-specific content to target audiences
- Collaborate with program leads and Marketing & Recruitment department to develop effective marketing campaigns; Monitor campaign effectiveness
- Participate in strategic planning for program growth
Essential Qualifications: - Experience and/or certification in outdoor adventure leadership: high ropes, aquatics, target sports, etc.
- Bachelor’s degree or five years of related experience and/or training, or, an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Minimum of 3 years experience in staff management and supervision
- Proven experience in program development, management, and evaluation
- Knowledge of curriculum development, adult learning theory and youth programming
- Strong communication, collaboration, teamwork, and facilitation skills (in-person and virtual)
- Able to manage and support staff;
- Able to set priorities, manage multiple projects, multi-task and prioritize in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment
- Adaptive and flexible problem-solving skills
- A proven track record in working with diverse communities
- Knowledge of Girl Scouts mission and programs
- Able to work a flexible schedule including pre-scheduled evenings and weekends
- Able to work consistent schedule from home with reliable, high-speed internet
- Able to attend pre-scheduled in-person activities and/or meetings across the assigned territory
- Valid California Driver’s license, access to reliable transportation, proof of insurance
- Able to pass Girl Scouts of Northern California’s background screening process (including fingerprinting, criminal education, social security and Department of Motor Vehicle verification)

- USA Archery Level 2 Instructor
- American Red Cross Lifeguarding
- Preferred Skills:
- Bilingual in Spanish, or other language, and English
- CPR and First Aid and/or WFA Instructor
- Small craft safety (sailing, canoe, or other boating certifications)
- Experience in:
- Backpacking/trekking
- Snowsports/ winter camping
- Leave No Trace principles
- Outdoor cooking
- Basic camp craft skills: knots, orienteering, etc
- Experience managing, coordinating or executing complex projects
- Bilingual in Spanish, or other language, and English
- A proven track record in working with diverse communities
- Knowledge of Girl Scouts mission and programs
- Knowledge of California State and American Camp Association laws and standards
Physical Requirements: - Ability to lift and/or move up to 25 lbs (boxes, materials, equipment)
- Visual, auditory and physical ability to identify and respond to hazards; Must be able to assist youth in emergency settings
- Possess physical endurance including prolonged standing, bending, stooping and stretching
