Director, Global Interchange Strategy

Essential Functions : Strategy and best practices - create strategic alignment and best practices across regional teams, develop frameworks that regional teams can use to roll out new interchange programs and ensure consistency in approach, provide consultation and support to regional teams on new interchange programs, provide thought leadership and structure on interchange elements of global deals, and oversee key global projects to drive decisions in a timely manner. Governance and compliance - oversee and evolve Visa’s interchange compliance and governance frameworks, conduct regular risk assessments in coordination with internal compliance, risk and audit teams, produce regular reports on compliance and governance activities including progress and outcomes for senior leadership.

Job Description

The Director of Global Interchange Strategy, will be a key member of the Global Interchange Strategy Center of Excellence team, overseeing global interchange programs, published rates, deals, and governance. This leadership role will involve frequent collaboration with regional interchange stakeholders and cross-functional partners in Pricing, Sales, Product, Finance, Legal, Government Engagement, Rules, Risk, Client Services, and other teams.

The successful candidate will be a strategic, data-driven thinker who is able to take a holistic approach to Visa’s interchange strategies.

This individual will drive the implementation of key strategic initiatives while developing and empowering a team to lead workstreams that support and advance Visa’s interchange strategy.

Essential Functions:

• Strategy and best practices - create strategic alignment and best practices across regional teams, develop frameworks that regional teams can use to roll out new interchange programs and ensure consistency in approach, provide consultation and support to regional teams on new interchange programs, provide thought leadership and structure on interchange elements of global deals, and oversee key global projects to drive decisions in a timely manner
• Innovation and process improvement - evolve our ways of working by moving from manual processes to automated processes, oversee adoption of new technologies, AI tools to streamline decision making and ongoing reporting requirements, and drive continuous process improvement
• Governance and compliance - oversee and evolve Visa’s interchange compliance and governance frameworks, conduct regular risk assessments in coordination with internal compliance, risk and audit teams, produce regular reports on compliance and governance activities including progress and outcomes for senior leadership
• Leadership support - mentor, manage and coach a team, assist in talent management and organization design, develop curriculum and materials for training and development of global interchange team
• The position will report to the Senior Vice President, NA Interchange & Pricing and be based at Visa's offices in Foster City, CA.

This role is a Hybrid position to be located in our Foster City, CA office location. Visa requires at least 3 days in office, expectations of these days will be confirmed by your Hiring Manager.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

• 10 or more years of work experience with a Bachelor’s Degree or at least 8 years of work experience with an Advanced Degree (e.g. Masters/ MBA/JD/MD) or at least 3 years of work experience with a PhD
• Ability to independently lead and manage projects with multiple workstreams, with proven leadership success over a wide variety of cross-functional business problems
• Ability to structure, manage, and coordinate complex cross-enterprise projects and processes with multiple stakeholders at both senior and junior levels
• Superior analytical and problem-solving skills, with demonstrated intellectual and analytical rigor
• Strong interpersonal and leadership skills to influence and build credibility with functional teams and regional leaders within Visa
• Proficiency in data management and reporting tools (e.g., AI, SQL, PowerBI, PowerApps)
• Commitment to continuous training and development of employees
• Self-starter, team oriented, collaborative, diplomatic, and flexible, with excellent presentation skills

Preferred Qualifications:

• 12 or more years of work experience with a Bachelor’s Degree or 8-10 years of experience with an Advanced Degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD, MD) or 6+ years of work experience with a PhD
• Experience in and/or significant exposure to the payments industry preferred, with knowledge of interchange a plus
• Global or multinational business experience strongly preferred

Information for US Applicants

For roles located in the US, the estimated salary range for this position is $188,400.00 to $ 301,500.00 USD per year, which may include potential sales incentive payments (if applicable). Salary may vary depending on job-related factors which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location. This position requires travel 5-10% of the time.
