Design Manager – Luxury Construction
POSITION OVERVIEW
We are seeking an experienced Construction Design Manager to lead the planning, coordination, and delivery of design solutions for luxury construction projects in the Miami/South Florida market. The Design Manager will serve as the critical connection between creative design intent and construction execution, ensuring designs are coordinated, constructible, compliant, and delivered to the exceptional quality standards expected on sophisticated luxury projects.
This role requires someone who understands both design and construction - not simply how a project should look, but how it will actually be built. You will work closely with architects, engineers, consultants, subcontractors, project management, VDC specialists, field teams, and clients to identify issues early, coordinate solutions, and ensure the design is successfully carried through into the field.
YOU WOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR
Design Coordination
- Lead the design coordination process from preconstruction through construction and project completion.
- Coordinate architects, engineers, consultants, subcontractors, project management, VDC specialists, and field teams to ensure alignment on design intent and constructability.
- Manage the development, preparation, and review of design packages and construction documentation.
- Review drawings, specifications, models, and design deliverables for accuracy, coordination, constructability, and regulatory compliance.
- Proactively identify and resolve design conflicts and inconsistencies.
- Ensure design solutions remain aligned with project scope, schedule, budget, and quality expectations.
- Coordinate design workflows with project schedules, RFIs, and design queries to ensure timely resolution.
BIM & Clash Detection
- Lead BIM coordination and clash-detection efforts to identify and resolve conflicts before construction.
- Establish and maintain BIM standards, workflows, best practices, and BIM execution plans.
- Coordinate with VDC Specialists to produce accurate, constructible models that support field operations.
- Monitor BIM coordination throughout the project lifecycle.
Field Integration
- Support construction teams with detailed design clarification and ensure field implementation aligns with design intent.
- Address design-related field issues quickly to minimize disruption to construction activities.
- Conduct site visits to verify design details, specifications, and quality standards are being implemented correctly.
- Work collaboratively with project and field teams to resolve constructability challenges.
Error, Omission & Quality Management
- Review design deliverables to identify potential errors, omissions, inconsistencies, and constructability issues before they impact construction.
- Develop strategies and processes to minimize design-related risks and reduce rework.
- Implement quality-control processes and corrective actions as required.
- Ensure design deliverables meet contractual and regulatory requirements.
- Maintain exceptional standards for accuracy, detail, and quality throughout the design process.
Team Leadership
- Lead and mentor the design team, ensuring effective allocation of resources and collaboration across disciplines.
- Manage team workloads, schedules, responsibilities, and deliverables.
- Conduct design reviews to maintain high standards of quality and innovation.
- Support the growth of the Design Department by identifying and recruiting qualified design professionals as needed.
Client & Stakeholder Engagement
- Act as a key liaison between clients, architects, consultants, project managers, subcontractors, and construction teams on design-related matters.
- Facilitate clear communication between design and construction stakeholders.
- Build strong working relationships across project teams to support effective decision-making and project delivery.
Innovation & Continuous Improvement
- Introduce design strategies, technology, workflows, and best practices that improve project delivery.
- Identify opportunities to improve coordination, constructability, efficiency, and quality.
- Help maintain a competitive edge in the U.S. luxury construction market through innovative design and coordination practices.
DO YOU HAVE WHAT IT TAKES?
Luxury Construction Experience
- Proven Design Manager, Design Coordination, BIM/VDC, or comparable design-management experience within the construction industry.
- Experience managing design for high-end residential, hospitality, retail, luxury fit-out, or similarly detailed construction projects.
- Strong understanding of construction methods, materials, constructability, and design-build project delivery.
- Ability to bridge architectural and design intent with construction and field execution.
Technical Expertise
- Proficiency with AutoCAD, Revit, 3D modeling software, BIM workflows, and clash-detection processes.
- Experience reviewing and coordinating architectural, engineering, consultant, subcontractor, and construction documentation.
- Strong understanding of RFIs, design packages, project schedules, and multidisciplinary coordination.
- Ability to identify design conflicts, errors, omissions, and constructability issues before they become field problems.
- Strong knowledge of U.S. building standards, codes, and regulatory requirements.
Leadership & Project Management
- Proven ability to lead and mentor design professionals and coordinate cross-functional teams.
- Ability to manage multiple projects, priorities, deadlines, and deliverables simultaneously.
- Strong organizational and resource-management skills.
- Strategic thinker with a proactive approach to identifying and resolving design challenges.
- Ability to take ownership of issues and drive them through resolution.
Communication & Collaboration
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Comfortable communicating directly with clients, architects, consultants, subcontractors, project managers, and field leadership.
- Ability to communicate complex design and construction issues clearly and effectively.
- Fluent in English, both written and spoken.
- Spanish and/or French language skills are an advantage.
Education & Professional Background
- Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field preferred.
- Strong construction-industry experience with demonstrated responsibility for design coordination and project delivery.
- Detail-oriented with a commitment to accuracy, accountability, and exceptional finished work.
WHY YOU WANT THIS OPPORTUNITY
You understand that exceptional luxury construction begins long before something is installed in the field.
You notice the conflict in the drawings before it becomes a field problem. You understand how architectural intent, engineering, constructability, schedule, budget, and craftsmanship have to come together to produce an exceptional finished product.
You enjoy being at the center of that coordination - working with designers, consultants, project teams, and field professionals to solve complex problems and make sure the details are right.
Most importantly, you want to be part of an international organization known for highly detailed luxury construction and the delivery of exceptional private residential, hospitality, and retail projects.
