Position Summary
The Dental Assistant Instructor is responsible for delivering high-quality instruction for a short-term non-credit dental assisting program designed to prepare students for entry-level employment in dental offices. The instructor will provide both classroom and hands-on clinical instruction aligned with industry standards including preparation for the Dental Assisting National Board DANB certification where applicable.
This position plays a key role in workforce development by ensuring students gain the technical professional and employability skills needed to succeed in the dental field.
Key Responsibilities
Instruction & Curriculum Delivery
Deliver engaging competency-based instruction in dental assisting including chairside procedures infection control radiography if applicable dental materials and office procedures
Facilitate hands-on training using dental equipment and simulation tools
Follow an established DANB curriculum and adapt instruction to meet student needs
Ensure alignment with current industry standards and best practices
Student Support & Assessment
Evaluate student performance through skills assessments quizzes and practical demonstrations
Provide timely feedback and support to promote student success and retention
Maintain accurate attendance grades and student records
Prepare students for certification exams and employment opportunities
Program & Lab Management
Assist in setting up and maintaining the dental labclassroom including equipment and supplies
Ensure compliance with OSHA infection control and safety standards
Report equipment needs and assist with inventory management
Workforce & Employer Engagement
Support job readiness by incorporating professionalism communication and workplace expectations into instruction
Collaborate with workforce development staff to align training with employer needs
Participate in employer engagement activities as needed e.g. guest speakers site visits advisory input
Compliance & Continuous Improvement
Ensure program compliance with college policies and workforce funding requirements if applicable
Provide input on curriculum updates and program improvements
Participate in program evaluation and reporting as needed
Qualifications
Required
Current Dental Assistant certification CDA
Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a dental office setting
Strong knowledge of dental assisting procedures infection control and chairside techniques
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Preferred
Prior teaching or training experience academic or clinical setting
Familiarity with DANB certification requirements
Experience with adult learners or workforce training programs
Radiography certification if instruction includes x-ray training
Work Schedule
Part-time temporaryadjunct-style position
Approximately 14 weeks per cohort
Day andor evening hours depending on program schedule
Additional Information
This position may require standing for extended periods and demonstrating clinical techniques
Effective May 1 2015 all new employees must provide copies of their background clearances Act 34 PA Criminal Background Act 151 PA Child Abuse History and Act 114 FBI Fingerprint for the PA Dept of Human Services prior to date of hire.
Additional background checks and clearances may be required based on program or clinical partnerships
