Temporary Data Analyst

Required Qualifications • Advanced Microsoft Excel proficiency, including: Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP, XLOOKUP, Complex formulas • Analysis of large datasets • Strong data analysis and interpretation skills • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy • Research and information-gathering abilities • Trend and pattern identification experience • Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines • Reliable attendance and punctuality

Position Overview The Payroll Team is seeking a Temporary Data Analyst for a special two-month project focused on identifying payroll variances across multiple locations over several years of historical data. The contractor will primarily utilize advanced Excel skills to analyze large datasets, identify trends and discrepancies, and provide actionable insights. This assignment is not expected to extend beyond the initial two-month period, as the project is anticipated to be completed within that timeframe. The ideal candidate will be a strong analyst with advanced Excel capabilities, exceptional attention to detail, and the ability to independently research, analyze, and interpret data. Previous payroll experience is not required.

Project Background and Deliverables This special project involves analyzing payroll data from four locations, covering approximately eight years of historical information and multiple biweekly payroll periods. The primary objective is to identify variances and patterns related to holiday pay and 401(k) eligibility. The key deliverable is the completion of one year of detailed analysis per day, ensuring findings are accurate, documented, and reviewed with designated stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities • Analyze large payroll-related datasets to identify variances, discrepancies, trends, and patterns. • Conduct detailed research and information gathering to support findings and recommendations. • Utilize advanced Excel functions including Pivot Tables, VLOOKUPs, XLOOKUPs, formulas, and data validation tools. • Run reports from the payroll system to support data analysis activities. • Investigate patterns related to holiday pay and 401(k) eligibility. • Prepare summaries and reports of findings for project stakeholders. • Review completed analyses with designated reviewers after the first week of analysis. • Identify opportunities to improve processes and reduce manual tasks. • Maintain a high degree of accuracy, confidentiality, and attention to detail.

Percentage of Time Allocation • 95% Data analysis and reporting using Excel • 5% Running reports from the payroll system to support analysis
