Job Scope

May develop policies and procedures and oversee the implementation and execution of them.

Position Summary

The Database Administrator is responsible for maintaining the District's data warehouse system to ensure efficient, effective, and secure data retrieval, aggregation, and access of all District electronic information. Other responsibilities include analyzing the district's data management, inputs, security needs, and help ing develop tools that support data access and information security. In addition, this role is involved in operational improvement projects and development/enhancement of database and business intelligence solutions . This includes conducting advanced statistical analysis as requested by leadership, performing rigorous data validation to ensure data integrity, and building intuitive dashboards for stakeholders. Ensures compliance with local, state and federal policies and procedures for software additions or revisions. Comply with the Texas Educator's Code of Ethics. The Database Administrator may transform raw data into quality data systems and pipelines to support data scientist for data analytics and statistical modeling projects.

Essential Functions / Key Responsibilities

  1. Acquires, mines, cleans, and organizes large-scale raw data to support analytics and statistical modeling projects using R or Python.
  2. Performs data analysis required to troubleshoot data related issues and assist in the resolution of data issue.
  3. Builds out new API integrations, monitors data quality, and provides support for data analytics and statistical modeling.
  4. Designs, develops, and executes ETL packages to convert client data using stored procedures, functions, and SQL scripts in a Microsoft SQL Server environment.

  1. Develops and modifies stored procedures and T-SQL scripts in response to the needs of the Data Warehouse.
  2. Designs, implements, and maintains new and existing database objects including tables, indexes, constraints, stored procedures, and user-defined functions in support of data conversion projects.
  3. Manages all designs by performing moderately complex coding, implementation, maintenance and documentation of custom databases and other applicable software.
  4. Compiles and coordinates information related to the development of database applications for specific user needs.
  5. Reviews and manage software evaluation, hardware suitability, and applicability within the District's data repositories.
  6. Performs SQL Server administration activities (backup, restore, DBCC commands, indexing)
  7. Collects, organizes, and analyzes information related to the development of database applications for specific user needs.

  10. Provides technical assistance for applications and database software and hardware. Oversee s moderately complex data downloads from mainframe and other external sources to Data Warehouse. Performs scheduled server maintenance as needed.
  11. Research, recommends and implements new innovative database programming and software development programs.
  12. Compiles and retains all physical and computerized reports, records, and other required documents.
  13. Performs other related duties as assigned within the appropriate skill and experience capabilities expected for this position.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in Computer Science, Management Information Systems or Mathematics, or 4 years equivalent experience.
  • 3+ years of progressive experience in database administration, database management, database design, ETL design, or data analysis, including hands-on coding experience with Python or R.
  • Candidate must have satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting background check. Non-refundable fee (approximately $50.00) paid by the employee.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's Degree from an accredited university.
  • 5+ years of progressive experience in database administration, database management, database design, ETL design, or data analysis , including hands-on coding experience with Python or R.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Proficiency in Python or R for designing, developing, and executing advanced statistical analysis or data mining
  • Strong knowledge of various operating systems and productivity tools
