Job Description

We are seeking a CPD&D Laboratory Assistant to join our dynamic team supporting new herbicide discovery within the biology group. The ideal candidate will have strong experience in greenhouse operations and laboratory support and a proven ability to execute plant handling, sample preparation, and herbicide formulation and application with accuracy and safety.

Responsibilities:

  • Transplant plant material for testing in lab and greenhouse settings.
  • Move carts and plant materials between labs and greenhouses.
  • Trim plant material and prepare samples.
  • Mix herbicide application solvents and formulate herbicidal compounds.
  • Apply herbicidal compounds following protocols and safety procedures.
  • Weigh plant samples and grade plant injury.
  • Bag plant material for de-vitalization and disposal.
  • Enter data accurately and maintain records.
  • Support cleaning and upkeep of labs and work areas.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Prior greenhouse and laboratory experience. Experience will be considered over education.
  • Ability to formulate, mix, and apply herbicidal solutions safely.
  • Competence in plant handling, trimming, weighing, and injury grading.
  • Strong data entry accuracy and adherence to protocols.
  • Ability to work independently and in small teams across warm and cool greenhouse conditions.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs and stand for extended periods.

Preferred Skills:

  • AS/BS in Biology, Plant Science, Horticulture, or related field. MS considered overqualified.
  • Experience in herbicide discovery or agricultural research environments.

Schedule & Hiring Process:

  • Weekly schedule: 40 hours. Shift: 7:30 AM - 4:00 PM, Monday to Friday. Onsite only. Non-local not considered.
  • Interview process: Phone interview followed by on-site interview. Resume required.
  • Driving: Not required. Special equipment: Not required.

Safety, Environment & Compliance:

  • Medical surveillance: PAPR and OSHA respiratory evaluation required. Certification and training provided onsite.
  • Potential exposure to allergens: insects, plants, chemicals, latex. Appropriate PPE provided and required.
