We offer industry-leading benefits, as well as a challenging, collegial, and rewarding workplace with high levels of employee engagement.

Open Position: Counsel (Legal)

Job Description:

Reporting directly to our General Counsel, we seek an attorney to join a lean, business-integrated legal team that places a premium on sound judgment, accountability, and collegial collaboration within a regulated asset management environment. This role is well suited for a generalist who brings dynamic energy, professionalism, and a willingness to embrace the gray and engage fully in both strategic and day-to-day legal work in a fast-moving organization.

Counsel will advise on a broad range of matters impacting the firm’s business and partner closely with teams across the organization. The role offers meaningful exposure to leadership and complex issues, with the opportunity to take on increased scope and responsibility over time based on demonstrated performance, judgment, and the ability to build credibility and trust through consistent execution and strong working relationships.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide legal advice across the firm on asset management, governance, regulatory, contracts, employment, and corporate matters, translating legal requirements into practical guidance that supports business objectives

  • Support the firm’s registered investment adviser business by advising on Advisers Act–related matters, ERISA, and other securities laws

  • Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of agreements, including investment management agreements, vendor, and other third-party contracts

  • Support corporate governance and leadership committee processes, including coordination with the corporate secretary function, preparation of materials, resolutions, agenda, and minutes, with follow-up on governance action items

  • Support Human Capital Management on employment matters, including policies, employee relations, investigations, and compensation-related issues

  • Partner with Enterprise Risk and other control functions to identify, assess, and help manage legal risks, including escalation and remediation where appropriate

  • Manage matters end-to-end, from issue spotting through resolution, exercising judgment on risk tolerance, escalation, and documentation

  • Build strong, trusted relationships across investment, client-service, operations, and corporate teams by being responsive, accessible, and solutions-oriented

  • Handle both high-impact and routine matters with urgency, attention to detail, and a “no job too small” mindset, while maintaining perspective on broader firm priorities

Required Skills and Experience:

  • J.D. and active bar membership

  • 10+ years of relevant legal experience (law firm and/or in-house)

  • Working knowledge of the asset management industry and federally registered investment advisers

  • Experience working directly with business teams in a practical, solutions-oriented manner

  • Experience supporting corporate governance, boards, or leadership committees

  • Strong generalist skill set and sound practical judgment

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and pivot quickly between topics

We are looking for someone who values pace, accountability, and execution, who enjoys staying close to the work, embracing the gray, and contributing consistently in a high-volume, highly collaborative setting.

Base Salary: $150,000 - $180,000

Annual Performance Bonus: This role is eligible for an annual performance-based bonus

Applicants must be authorized to work in the U.S. for any employer. IR+M is unable to sponsor or assume sponsorship of employment visas.
