Position Purpose

Coordinates Fort Worth ISD's comprehensive school counseling program with a primary focus on secondary counseling services, ensuring aligned implementation of the Texas Model for Comprehensive School Counseling Programs, District priorities, and requirements of Texas Education Code Section 33.005. The Coordinator supports campus counselors, principals, teachers, students, families, and District staff by strengthening counseling systems, monitoring implementation, analyzing counseling and student outcome data, and building counselor capacity in academic planning, responsive services, college, career, and military readiness (CCMR), course selection, transition supports, crisis response, and student advocacy. This position collaborates across departments to ensure school counseling practices are coherent, equitable, data-informed, and designed to support student success, school completion, and postsecondary readiness.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Coordinates the development, implementation, monitoring, and continuous improvement of the District's comprehensive school counseling program in alignment with the Texas Model, District goals, and applicable state requirements.
  • Supports the Director in establishing counseling priorities, annual calendars, implementation expectations, professional learning plans, and progress-monitoring routines for assigned campuses.
  • Provides coaching, technical assistance, and professional learning for school counselors to strengthen implementation of developmental guidance, responsive services, individual planning, system support, student advocacy, and postsecondary readiness practices.
  • Uses counseling, academic, attendance, behavior, graduation, CCMR, course enrollment, and other relevant data to identify trends, monitor program effectiveness, support campus action planning, and recommend adjustments to services and supports.
  • Builds counselor capacity to interpret and use data to support student achievement, course progression, school completion, transition planning, and college, career, and military readiness outcomes.
  • Coordinates counseling program delivery related to academic planning, course selection, career awareness, college readiness, Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), college application activities, advanced academics, extracurricular opportunities, and student and family information sessions.
  • Supports counselors and campus leaders in implementing timely and accurate transition supports for students moving between grade levels, campuses, programs, and postsecondary pathways.
  • Supports the integrity and effective use of counseling-related platforms, including SchooLinks, by maintaining accurate course, program, pathway, alumni, and student planning information in collaboration with appropriate departments.
  • Assists campus staff in identifying students who need additional counseling, academic, social emotional, behavioral, or transition support and coordinates appropriate interventions, referrals, and follow-up processes.
  • Supports Districtwide crisis response services and assists in training counselors and administrators in crisis response practices, communication protocols, and student support procedures.
  • Collaborates with Curriculum and Instruction, College and Career Readiness, Specialized Learning, Multilingual Programs, campus leadership, and other departments to align counseling services, advisory supports, resources, and communication to meet the needs of all student populations.
  • Develops, maintains, and supports implementation of developmentally appropriate advisory resources, guidance lessons, and secondary counseling materials related to CCMR, character education, student success skills, and postsecondary planning.
  • Develops reports, presentations, guidance documents, communication materials, and other resources for counselors, campus leaders, families, District staff, and external stakeholders.
  • Plans and facilitates counselor meetings, training sessions, recognition activities, and stakeholder engagement opportunities to communicate expectations, share updates, gather feedback, and strengthen implementation.
  • Monitors counseling program goals, implementation milestones, and deliverables; shares progress reports; and assists in developing action plans to address identified needs or gaps.
  • Models and reinforces ethical standards of the Texas School Counselor Association, American School Counselor Association, and applicable District policies related to professional school counseling, confidentiality, student advocacy, and service delivery.
  • Pursues continuous professional growth and stays abreast of current research, requirements, systems, and best practices related to school counseling, student support, CCMR, crisis response, and program evaluation.
  • Demonstrates flexibility in scheduling and availability, including extended or adjusted work hours during peak counseling, scheduling, transition, crisis response, monitoring, and critical deadline periods, to ensure timely and accurate execution of responsibilities.

  • Knowledge of the Texas Model for Comprehensive School Counseling Programs, the American School Counselor Association framework, and professional standards for school counseling.
  • Knowledge of Texas Education Code requirements, applicable federal and state laws, District policies, and procedures related to school counseling, student services, student records, confidentiality, and data privacy.
  • Knowledge of comprehensive school counseling program components, including guidance curriculum, responsive services, individual planning, system support, student appraisal, intervention, advocacy, and career development.
  • Knowledge of CCMR, graduation requirements, course sequencing, advanced academics, postsecondary planning, career exploration, and transition supports for secondary students.
  • Knowledge of counseling issues impacting students and families, including academic progress, attendance, behavior, crisis response, social-emotional needs, mental health referral processes, and student engagement.
  • Knowledge of data analysis, program evaluation, progress monitoring, and development of action plans to improve counseling program implementation and student outcomes.
  • Knowledge of counseling-related technology platforms, student planning tools, reporting systems, spreadsheets, presentation software, and other productivity applications.
  • Skill in analyzing and interpreting quantitative and qualitative data to identify trends, evaluate implementation, and support data-informed decision-making.
  • Skill in developing and delivering professional learning, presentations, resources, reports, and communication materials for diverse audiences.
  • Skill in coaching, mentoring, and building the capacity of counselors and campus teams to implement effective counseling practices.
  • Skill in organizing and managing multiple projects, timelines, training cycles, monitoring processes, and stakeholder groups simultaneously.

Minimum Required Qualifications

  • Education: Master's degree from an accredited college or university required.
  • Certification/License: Valid Texas counseling certification required. Valid Texas teaching certification preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum of three years of successful experience in education required, including counseling experience at the secondary level.
  • Experience coordinating or supporting a comprehensive school counseling program across multiple campuses preferred.
  • Experience using student outcome data to monitor implementation, evaluate program effectiveness, and develop action plans preferred.
  • Experience providing professional learning, coaching, and technical assistance to school counselors or campus teams preferred.
  • Experience supporting CCMR, academic planning, scheduling, transition activities, crisis response, or student engagement initiatives preferred.
