Description

Passport BMW is hiring a Controller for our auto dealership in Suitland, MD. As the member of senior management, you will serve as the strategic financial hub of our high-volume retail operations. You will oversee all accounting functions, manage month-end/year-end close processes, ensure OEM compliance (BMW financial statements, warranty, and rebate accounts), and manage floorplan and liquidity.

Job Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

  • Financial Oversight & OEM Reporting: Lead full-cycle accounting operations, ensuring timely preparation and submission of accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual BMW financial statements in compliance with GAAP and OEM guidelines.
  • General Ledger & Schedule Hygiene: Maintain strict oversight of all dealership schedules—including bank reconciliations, factory receivables, floorplan, warranty claims, rebate accounts, and reserve accounts.
  • Cash Flow & Liquidity Management: Monitor daily cash positions, floorplan payoffs, inventory financing, banking relationships, and working capital needs.
  • Internal Controls & Compliance: Audit and refine internal control procedures to safeguard dealership assets, mitigate risk, and prepare for internal/external audits.
  • Departmental Leadership: Mentor and direct the accounting team (AP/AR, payroll, billing, titling/tagging), promoting accountability, cross-functional efficiency, and team development.
  • Strategic Business Partnering: Provide actionable financial insights, trend analysis, and variance forecasting to General Managers and executive leadership to drive profitability across Sales, F&I, and Fixed Ops.

Qualifications

Key Qualifications & Experience

  • Automotive Retail Experience: Minimum 3+ years of experience as a Dealership Controller, Business Manager, or Assistant Controller within a franchised auto dealership environment.
  • DMS Platform Expertise: Hands-on experience with major automotive Dealership Management Systems (e.g., CDK Global, Reynolds & Reynolds, Dealertrack, or AutoMate).
  • Advanced Financial Modeling: Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, complex formulas, financial modeling) is essential.
  • Core Accounting Mastery: Deep technical understanding of automotive inventory accounting, revenue recognition, floorplan interest credits, and warranty/co-op reconciliation.
  • Leadership Skills: Proven ability to manage, train, and inspire a dealership office staff in a fast-paced environment.
