Job Title: Android Designer Location: New York, NY 10011 Duration: 3 Months Work type: W2 Payrate: $65.49/hr
Job Description:
Do you love the craft of native Android design, with all the small decisions about motion, touch, and platform conventions that make an app feel like it belongs on the device? Our nearly 300-person product design group, is looking for a contract designer to join the Spectrum team and focus on our Android platform.
Spectrum is Customer’s design system, and it powers experiences across Creative Cloud, Document Cloud, and Experience Cloud. As customer’s mobile footprint grows, we need a designer who can help ensure Spectrum feels genuinely at home on Android, honoring Material guidelines where it matters while staying true to Customer’s identity.
What you'll be working on
You'll be designing and refining Spectrum components for Android, balancing Material Design conventions with Customer’s cross-platform design language.
You'll work closely with engineering to scope components, refine implementation strategies, and craft specs that translate directly into Jetpack Compose.
You'll be collaborating with Spectrum designers working on iOS, web, and desktop to align patterns across platforms while respecting what makes each one unique.
You'll be contributing to documentation and usage guidance so product teams building Customer’s Android apps can adopt components confidently.
Skills:Must haves:
5+ years of product design experience with significant time spent designing for Android
Fluency in Material Design and a clear point of view on when to follow it, when to extend it, and when to diverge
Experience designing components and patterns as part of a design system, not just screens or features
Strong collaboration skills with engineering partners, including familiarity with how Android components are built (Jetpack Compose experience a plus)
Clear written and verbal communication, so you can explain a design decision to a designer, an engineer, and a PM, and each one walks away with what they need
Ability to ramp quickly and work independently within an established system
Nice-to-haves:
Prior experience contributing to a public or large-scale design system
Familiarity with accessibility standards on Android (TalkBack, touch targets, motion preferences)
Experience designing across multiple platforms (iOS, web) in addition to Android
Background working with creative or productivity tools
