Primary Duties and Responsibilities

The Semel Institute for Neuroscience and Human Behavior is seeking a part-time Contracts & Grants Research Administrator to join the Kasari Laboratory, a national recognized research program focused on improving outcomes for children with autism and other development disabilities.

In this role you will provide comprehensive pre-award and post-award support for sponsored research projects and serve as a key resource to Principal Investigators and research teams. Key responsibilities include:

  • Coordinate and manage grant and contract proposal submissions from preparation through submission
  • Prepare budgets, budget justifications, and other proposal-related materials
  • Reviewing funding opportunities and assist investigators with sponsor requirements
  • Collaborate with Principal Investigators, funding agencies, and university offices throughout the proposal process
  • Ensure compliance with university policies and sponsor regulations, including human subjects, animal research, biosafety, conflict of interest, and other requirements.
  • Manage sponsored awards throughout the life of the project, including reporting, modifications, and closeout activities.
  • Monitor project expenditures and budgets to ensure appropriate use of funds.
  • Prepare financial reports, budget forecasts, and funding projections.
  • Analyze and resolve complex research administration and financial issues.
  • Advise investigators on grant administration, compliance requirements, and funding agency guidelines.
  • Support complex sponsored projects involving multiple investigators, subawards, training grants, and other specialized funding mechanisms.

Salary range: $35.65/hr - $73.02/hr

Required

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Finance, Public Administration, Healthcare Administration, or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Minimum 5 years of research administration experience
  • Demonstrated knowledge of grant funding processes, procedures, and best practices
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Acrobat, with advanced skills in Microsoft Excel
  • Ability to perform complex financial analyses, develop budget projections, and generate customized financial reports
  • Strong written communication skills, including the ability to prepare and edit documents for varied audiences while adhering to sponsor guidelines and requirements
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities, deadlines, and proposal submission systems simultaneously   
  • Demonstrated attention to detail and ability to maintain accuracy in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment

Preferred

  • Experience developing, managing, reconciling, and forecasting research grant and contract budgets
  • Strong quantitative and analytical skills, including the ability to perform complex calculations, financial forecasting, and problem-solving
  • Knowledge and experience working with a variety of funding sources, including federal and state agencies, foundations, industry sponsors, and other external funding organizations
  • Experience supporting sponsored research projects within an academic, healthcare, or research-focused environment
