    Description

    Content Marketing Manager

    Job Summary

The Content Marketing Manager sits on the Tactical side of the Content team and turns the strategic foundation from our Portfolio team into channel-ready content. This is a content execution and quality-control role translating strategic guidance into content plans, production calendars and priority assets.

As an experienced marketing professional, this role uses best practice and knowledge of internal and external business issues to improve content processes and outcomes and typically resolves complex problems where precedent may not exist, working independently and potentially leading the work of small project teams as needed.

Day to day, the role builds and runs the content plan and production calendar for their assigned scope across customer stages, writes vertical-specific ad copy and consideration-stage content, and quality checks the accuracy and narrative continuity of content that Acquisition, GTM Excellence and Customer Engagement deploy in their channels. The role also feeds themes, proof points and channel needs into Strategic cross-vertical thematic campaigns and thought-leadership plans and closes the loop with Portfolio on which messaging is resonating in market.

    Responsibilities

    Content Planning & Production

    • Build and maintain a content plan and production calendar, covering consideration (solution education) and lifecycle (usage, adoption, renewal) content, plus input into top-of-funnel thematic campaigns.
    • Translate value propositions, personas, messaging frameworks and jobs-to-be-done into content briefs, vertical-specific solution ad copy, and consideration-stage assets (case studies, proof points, explainer/demo scripts).
    • Write and manage vertical-specific solution ad copy and consideration-stage content.
    • Contribute themes, proof points and channel needs into thematic campaigns and thought-leadership plans so awareness-stage content reflects vertical nuance.
    • Prioritize and sequence content investment against the team's agreed vertical criteria, revisiting priorities at each quarterly business review.
    • Maintain the relevant inputs to the team's shared Content Architecture & Production Plan.

    Cross-Functional Alignment & Handoffs

    • Receive strategic handoff from Portfolio and report on which value-prop elements and messaging are resonating or underperforming in market so Portfolio can refine inputs over time.
    • Own vertical-specific solution ad copy and consideration content that Acquisition deploys in paid and organic channels.
    • Serve as messaging and positioning consultant on sales-facing assets.
    • Partner with Customer Engagement to review content for narrative and persona continuity.
    • Partner with Regional on vertical-specific conference messaging and asset development.
    • Confirm with Portfolio that downstream teams have the foundational messaging to execute effectively.
    • Maintain one consistent content standard, shared templates and coordinated handoffs across all six verticals.

    AI-Enabled Content Workflows

    • Pilot and adopt AI tools and workflows across ideation, drafting, repurposing, tagging and quality review, building reusable templates and a shared prompt library the wider Content team can adopt consistently.
    • Stay current on AI and content-production tooling relevant to B2B/R&D content, recommending new capabilities and retiring workflows that no longer add value; growth in this area is expected over time rather than assumed on day one.
    • Maintain adherence to brand within AI workflows and share best practices across all of Elsevier.

    Testing, Feedback & Measurement

    • Design lightweight testing in partnership with sales feedback and channel performance data — interpret and act on data sourced from channel-owning teams.
    • Define and track measures, revisiting them quarterly alongside QBRs and priority shifts.
    • Maintain a point of view on what's working, what isn't and why, and translate that into ongoing adjustments to the content plan.

    Governance & Continuous Improvement

    • Maintain documentation of content standards and workflows so the practice stays consistent across the Content team.
    • Report on content plan progress, production throughput, AI workflow adoption and testing results.
    • Flexing scope as quarterly priorities and specialist capacity shift, without disrupting the shared standard or production calendar.

    Requirements

    • Have 8–12 years of experience in B2B content marketing, marketing communications, or a related field, ideally within technology, SaaS, or R&D-focused industries.
    • Proven experience translating strategic messaging frameworks, value propositions and personas into channel-ready content.
    • Have exceptional writing and editing skills, with experience quality-checking content for narrative continuity and brand/message consistency across multiple channels and teams.
    • Experience building and running a content plan and production calendar across multiple workstreams, stakeholders or verticals.
    • Demonstrated ability to work independently and resolve complex or ambiguous problems where established precedent may not exist.
    • Comfort operating cross-functionally with Portfolio, Acquisition, GTM Excellence, Customer Engagement and Regional teams.
    • Experience in vertical or industry-specific B2B marketing (e.g., life sciences, R&D, corporate/enterprise audiences). (Valued).
    • Hands-on experience piloting AI tools in content workflows (drafting, repurposing, tagging, quality review). (Valued).
    • Experience building or maintaining shared content templates, prompt libraries, or documentation standards for a marketing team. (Valued).
    • Familiarity with sales enablement or sales-facing messaging support. (Valued).
    • Experience informally mentoring or training junior team members or contributors. (Valued).
