This role follows a hybrid schedule and requires on-site work Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.

The Primary Duties of the Cloud Operations Lead Engineer are to:

  • Lead design, deployment, and governance of GCP infrastructure using IaC and automation, ensuring secure, scalable, and efficient cloud operations with Azure interoperability where needed.

  • Partner with Network, Security, Application Support, and Enterprise Development teams to ensure reliable, high-performing, and secure cloud services aligned to business goals.

  • Act as a liaison between Cloud Operations, CCoE, and Enterprise Architecture, translating strategy into GCP-first operational standards and reusable infrastructure patterns.

  • Guide teams on cloud architecture decisions, including GCP-native services (e.g., Cloud Run, GKE), and resolve complex design challenges.

  • Build and govern reusable Terraform modules aligned to cloud standards, IAM policies, versioning, and tagging conventions across multi-cloud environments.

  • Evaluate vendors and third-party solutions; support procurement decisions for cloud platforms, observability tools, and GCP services.

  • Provide technical input on cost optimization, efficiency, resilience, and lifecycle sustainability of cloud services.

  • Research and recommend emerging cloud technologies to advance GCP platform maturity and multi-cloud strategy.

  • Implement and enforce GCP identity and access management (IAM), aligned with Azure RBAC where applicable.

  • Own observability integration (e.g., Dynatrace, Grafana, GCP Cloud Operations Suite) to ensure monitoring, alerting, and root cause visibility.

  • Lead incident response and root cause analysis for major cloud outages; drive cross-team resolution and risk reduction.

  • Drive platform improvements focused on standardization, automation, security, and performance.

  • Ensure documentation quality for Terraform, CI/CD pipelines, configurations, and operational processes.

  • Oversee cloud security controls, compliance (including PCI), and disaster recovery alignment.

  • Mentor engineers, lead peer reviews, and promote engineering standards across Cloud Operations.

  • Represent Cloud Operations in cross-functional groups, support cloud enablement, training, and onboarding.

  • Promote Information Security policies and a security-by-design culture.

  • Other duties assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree (BS/BA) or equivalent in Computer Sciences, Business Administration, or related field required. Equivalent combination of education, technical training, and experience will be considered in lieu of degree.

  • Minimum 6 years of hands-on experience working with Google Cloud Platform (GCP), including architecting, provisioning, configuring, and managing services such as GKE, Cloud Run, VPC networking, IAM, and managed services, required.

  • Minimum 4 years of experience with Microsoft Azure, supporting enterprise-scale infrastructure and hybrid/multi-cloud integration scenarios, required as a secondary skillset.

  • Minimum 4 years of experience designing and maintaining infrastructure-as-code for cloud environments using Terraform, including reusable module development, version control, and organizational governance required.

  • GCP Associate Cloud Engineer or Professional Cloud Architect certification required.

  • Terraform Associate certification or similar infrastructure-as-code certification required.

  • Azure Administrator Associate or Azure Solutions Architect certification preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Lead in a collaborative environment, influencing engineering standards, practices, and platform maturity across teams.

  • Manage multiple high-impact initiatives, balancing tactical execution with strategic priorities and delivering results with minimal oversight.

  • Mentor engineers of all levels, lead peer reviews, and guide architectural discussions while strengthening operational capability through knowledge sharing.

  • Perform advanced analysis of cloud infrastructure to identify risks, inefficiencies, and opportunities for scalable improvements across performance, security, and cost.

  • Provide deep hands-on expertise in GCP (IAM, networking, organization structure, security controls) and working knowledge of Azure for hybrid integration.

  • Lead design and troubleshooting complex multi-cloud environments with strong root cause analysis across platform, networking, and identity layers.

  • Develop and maintain reusable Terraform modules and GitOps workflows, including state management, versioning, and policy enforcement.

  • Drive cross-functional collaboration, change management, and documentation standards while supporting continuous learning, cloud adoption, and secure operations practices.
