The position involves engaging in advocacy, working directly with community members, addressing systemic discrimination, and shaping legal strategies that promote justice, safety, and dignity.Practice AreasCivil Rights/Civil Liberties (Religious Freedom), Employment, National Security & Law Enforcement Practices, Public Accommodations, Prisoners' Rights, School Issues, Hate Crimes/Incidents, etc.ResponsibilitiesReview and investigate legal claims from a diverse community.Conduct intakes and communicate with community members.Manage a caseload of approximately 200+ intakes annually.Assist with litigation: draft pleadings, motions, and briefs.Lead and manage assigned litigation efforts where experience allows.Perform in‑depth legal research.Prepare legal documents such as complaints, discovery, briefs, letters, memos, and non‑legal writings (community advisories, briefings, reports).Communicate with outside parties, including attorneys, employers, law‑enforcement agents, administrative agencies, and media contacts.Educate and empower community members through presentations and materials.Assist in preparing CAIR‑California reports.Travel to outreach events and coalition meetings.Support general duties: answering phones, weekly outreach, fundraising, and office tasks as needed.QualificationsJuris Doctor from an ABA‑accredited law school.California State Bar admission.1–3+ years of experience in employment law, religious discrimination, public accommodation, denial of benefits by governmental or private actors in court or administrative contexts.Strong time‑management skills and ability to meet deadlines.Problem‑solving skills with meticulous attention to detail.Ability to work productively in a fast‑paced, team‑oriented environment.Excellent oral and written communication skills; public‑speaking experience.Experience working with diverse cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds.Access to a working vehicle and ability to drive in the Greater Los Angeles Area.High self‑motivation and creativity.Strong commitment to civil rights and CAIR's mission.Basic computer proficiency (MS Office, Outlook).
