Summary

Reporting to and in close partnership with the chief executive officer (CEO), the chief financial officer (CFO) will establish SourcePoints financial policy and direction while also being an active participant in, and driver of, the organizations overall strategy. They will lead all administration and planning of SourcePoints financial and business operations. As an integral member of the executive leadership team, the CFO will work closely with motivated and engaged finance and audit committees, as well as other board committees. The CFO must be able to adapt to a continually evolving environment and thrive in an autonomous, deadline-oriented workplace while managing a team of 12 across finance, human resources (HR), facilities, quality/compliance, risk management, and information technology (IT).

  • Pay: Starting pay range $89,400-$118,000

Essential Job Function

Strategy and Executive Leadership

  • Partner with the CEO on all fiscal, operational, administrative, and strategic issues to identify potential problems and drive continuous system improvement, and provide strategic recommendations to the CEO based on analysis.
  • Exercises good judgment in decision-making, and effective and professional communication with both internal and external customers, including, but not limited to, elected officials, county, state, and independent auditors, county treasurer, banking officials, investment personnel, funding sources, grantees, contractors, vendors, clients, and the general public; and may guide larger multidisciplinary teams outside of the direct span of control.
  • Serves as the executive team leader for administrative and financial operations management, including policy and structure development, legal engagement, regulatory compliance, and risk management.
  • Engages the executive team and other senior leadership to facilitate cross-departmental collaboration, ensuring that all financial, IT, facilities, and HR solutions positively support SourcePoints evolving financial planning strategy, operational delivery, and data collection needs.
  • Participate in the ongoing strategic planning process as an integral member of the senior management team, with a focus on budget planning and cost management.
  • Attends all board meetings to serve as a resource to the CEO and periodically makes reports to the board of directors; engages the board finance committee around issues, trends, and changes in the operating model and operational delivery.

Financial and Operational Management

  • Develop, support, and manage direct staff, including managers and administrators of finance, facilities, HR, and IT.

  • Review all formal finance-, HR-, facilities-, risk management-, and IT-related contracts, procedures, processes, and administration, recommending improvements to the systems in place.

  • Financial Management:

  • Develop and utilize forward-looking, predictive models and functional and activity-based financial analyses to provide insight into the organizations operations and business plans.

  • Oversees cash flow planning, budgeting, financial forecasting, and the implementation of budgets, monitoring progress, and presenting operational metrics both internally and externally in an accurate and timely manner.

  • Ensure that appropriate internal controls and financial procedures are in place in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, and monitor the use of all funds.

  • Ensures ERP/NetSuite system stabilization, reporting accuracy, process improvement, system controls, and financial visibility across the organization.

  • Coordinates the audit and proper filing of tax forms, and engages and facilitates the audit committee of the board of directors to ensure timely review and approval of the final audit report.

  • Operations Management:

  • Oversees and directs human resources for over 100 staff, including but not limited to evaluating and overseeing all benefits negotiations to allow SourcePoint employees the most competitive packages; recruitment strategies that attract the most qualified and diverse candidates to the organization; ensures all SourcePoint personnel and volunteer policies maintain compliance with Federal, State, and local laws, funding and tax- and benefit-related filing requirements, and meet industry best practices.

  • Oversees and directs SourcePoints IT department to design an IT plan for current and future needs and implement the plan successfully (hardware and software) as the organization grows. This includes, but is not limited to, equipment procurement; data security/ storage & disposal management; software selection, implementation, and integration; telephone systems; and contracting for all cloud-based services. Contracts with third parties for routine IT audits and ensures best practices and industry standards are followed.

  • Oversees and directs the quality assurance, accreditation, risk management, and compliance agency-wide, including but not limited to grant compliance, federal and state funding requirements, internal controls, accreditation, records retention, policy oversight, and agency-wide risk management. Ensures the development and implementation of agency-wide compliance and quality methods, key performance indicators, reporting tools, and standards for inspection, testing, and evaluation of programs and services.

  • Oversee the organizations physical infrastructure, physical building(s), and system maintenance (security, fire suppression, pool, HVAC, etc.). This includes, but is not limited to, repairs and maintenance of the facility, grounds, and equipment; all construction and renovation projects; and the procurement of necessary equipment, supplies, and contracted services. Complies with all government regulations and industry best practices, including bid procurement and prevailing wage requirements.

Education and Experience

The CFO will be an experienced and ethical leader with 5-10 years of broad finance experience, ideally beginning in audit, followed by experience gathering and evaluating financial information and making actionable recommendations to executive leadership. They will ideally have experience managing finance (accounting, budgeting, control, and reporting), HR, facilities, and IT for a medium to large nonprofit, with multiple funding sources and program areas.

The CFO will have the following experience and attributes:

  • A minimum of a bachelors degree in finance, accounting, or business, with a CPA or MBA highly preferred. A degree in public administration with 5 years of post-graduate accounting experience will be considered.
  • Demonstrates emotional maturity, strong ethics, and a proactive approach to problems, with evidence of having worked as a true business partner to the chief executive of a non-profit entity. If coming from the for-profit world, nonprofit board experience is required.
  • Demonstrated excellence in leadership, strategic capabilities, forecasting, and financial management, accounting, budgeting, control, and reporting
  • Skilled in examining, developing, reengineering, and recommending financial, HR, facilities, and technology policies and procedures
  • Strong analytical skills and experience in interpreting a strategic vision into an operational model
  • A collaborative and flexible style, with a strong service mentality. Needs to be seen as a team player who is committed to employee development
  • A hands-on manager with integrity and a desire to work in a dynamic, mission- driven environment
  • An effective communicator with strong oral and written skills
  • Demonstrated commitment to the social sector, with a passion for the organizations mission, is essential
  • Self-motivated, reliable, detail-oriented, and maintains a high level of integrity.

This position would be contingent on written consent to a background and credit check, and both must come back satisfactory.

Other

It is recognized that in any organization, particularly a small one, it is necessary to assume new responsibilities to ensure smooth continuity of operations. Not only is the Chief Financial Officer required to wear many hats, but it is expected that this person will be familiar with the work of others to the point of being able to fill in temporarily. It is also anticipated that other organizational needs will emerge and be assigned to this position.
