Chief Financial Officer | Hartford Public Schools

Hartford, CT | 12-month position | Salary Range: $170,000-$190,000

Hartford Public Schools is seeking a strategic, mission-driven Chief Financial Officer to lead the Department of Finance and help steward a $450M+ budget in service of nearly 16,000 students across 39 schools.

Reporting directly to the Superintendent and CEO, the CFO will serve as a key member of the senior leadership team - advising on district finances, driving long-range financial planning, and partnering across departments to accelerate equity and organizational excellence in line with HPSs strategic plan.

What Youll Do:

  • Advise the Superintendent and Cabinet as a strategic finance partner
  • Lead the annual budget process, including stakeholder engagement
  • Direct fund management, procurement, payroll, and financial forecasting
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal financial regulations
  • Represent HPS before the Board of Education, City Council, and state bodies on financial matters

What You Bring:

  • Bachelors degree required (JD, MBA, MPA, or CPA preferred)
  • 10+ years of relevant finance/business/operations experience
  • 5+ years senior-level experience working with superintendents, executive cabinets, or boards (preferred)
  • Experience overseeing large, complex budgets and managing state/federal grants
  • CT certification in School Business Administrator (085), or ability to obtain, strongly preferred
