A Day in the Life

Morning starts on-site at a customer facility. You review a Centac or Turbo Air compressor’s run history, connect your handheld, and begin diagnostics with precision measuring tools. By mid-morning, you’re validating wiring against schematics and bringing a system through pre-commissioning checks. After lunch, you perform a 47-point inspection and preventative maintenance on the compressor, its refrigerated or desiccant dryer, and auxiliary air components. You wrap up by documenting work orders and time sheets, advising the customer on Package CARE, Preventative Maintenance, Diagnostics, Audits, and Leak Detection, and coordinating next steps and parts with the Service Coordinator.

What You’ll Do

  • Install, start up, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain centrifugal compressor product lines (Centac and Turbo Air) and related compressed air systems.
  • Use precision measuring tools to diagnose issues and verify tolerances on compressed air equipment.
  • Interpret electrical schematics and diagrams; research complex technical problems and implement effective solutions.
  • Complete detailed work orders, maintenance checklists, and daily time sheets for every service or installation activity.
  • Advise customers on system improvements and best practices; increase awareness of Ingersoll Rand solutions including Package CARE, Preventative Maintenance, Diagnostics, Audits, and Leak Detection.
  • Perform safety assessments in dynamic industrial settings and execute preventative maintenance including 47-point inspections on compressors, refrigerated and desiccant dryers, and other components.
  • Partner with the Service Coordinator and operations to procure and stage necessary parts and supplies.
  • Communicate procedures and policies to align with suppliers and external stakeholders.
  • Conduct basic vibration and air quality troubleshooting.

What You Bring

  • 3–5 years of hands-on experience with centrifugal compressors.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid driver’s license held for at least 12 months with a clean record (no DUI in the past 5 years; no Hit & Run, License Suspension, Reckless/Careless Driving, or multiple smaller violations/preventable collisions in the past 3 years).
  • Comfort working in mechanical rooms and industrial environments with noise, extreme weather, precarious locations, and high-voltage exposure per NFPA or equivalent standards.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding tasks: frequent use of hands/fingers, walking, stooping, kneeling, and lifting/moving weights per safety policy.

Core Competencies

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office; confident with smartphones/tablets (i.e., iPad) and network-based tools.
  • Strong verbal and written communication; customer service orientation with skills in conflict resolution, communication, and negotiation.
