    Job Title: Cashier

    Reports to: Store Manager, Assistant Manager, Floor Manager

    Status: Non-Exempt

    Summary

    The cashier is responsible for providing positive and friendly customer service. The cashier will operate a cash register to total customers' purchases and accept payments, verifying all prices and quantities are accurate.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    • Greet all customers with a smile and friendly attitude
    • Record prices, subtotal taxable items, and total purchases on a cash register
    • Collect acceptable forms of payment from customers and make change for cash transactions
    • Verify proper identification when accepting checks, for purchases of tobacco and/or alcohol (if applicable), and for lottery sales
    • Verify and process customers' merchandise returns or refunds
    • Maintain knowledge of weekly ad
    • Review price sheets to note price changes and sale items
    • Maintain a neat and clean work space
    • Fill pop coolers, tobacco, and candy displays
    • Promote Lewis initiatives and represent Lewis in a positive manner to our customers and communities
    • Perform additional duties as assigned by management

    Qualifications

    • High school diploma or equivalent required (or in progress)
    • Ability to handle transactions accurately and responsibly
    • Excellent communication skills and problem solving abilities
    • Basic math and computer skills

    Physical Requirements

    • Must be able to stand and remain stationary for long periods of time
    • Must be able to constantly operate a cash register
    • Ability to lift/move items up to 10 lbs constantly, up to 20 lbs frequently, and up to 50 lbs occasionally with or without accommodation
