Role Overview
As an Immigration and HR Operations Specialist, you will manage employment-based immigration programs while helping employees and leaders navigate critical moments with clarity, empathy, and precision. You will own cases across the employee lifecycle, partner with external immigration counsel, and ensure stakeholders have timely visibility into status, deadlines, and next steps.
You will also strengthen the operating systems behind a fast-growing organization. By resolving HRIS issues, improving workflows, and documenting scalable processes, you will help Astera Labs deliver a consistent employee experience as we build the connectivity foundation for rack-scale AI infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
- Immigration Program Management
- Lead end-to-end employment-based immigration cases, including H-1B, L-1, TN, PERM, and permanent residence processes.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for employees, hiring managers, HRBPs, and internal stakeholders, providing timely and empathetic guidance.
- Partner with external immigration counsel and service providers to prepare filings, manage case progress, and resolve issues through completion.
- Case Operations and Compliance
- Track case status, deadlines, documentation, and compliance requirements across the employee lifecycle.
- Proactively identify risks, communicate impacts, and escalate time-sensitive matters to drive cases to resolution.
- Maintain accurate, confidential records and deliver clear reporting on immigration program activity and operational trends.
- HRIS and Process Operations
- Provide Tier 2/3 support for HRIS-related Jira tickets, including data errors, workflow failures, and access issues, resolving issues within the system whenever possible.
- Partner with HRBPs, Payroll, IT, and HR Operations teammates to translate process needs into effective system configuration and workflow changes.
- Document system configurations, workflows, and standard operating procedures to support consistency, auditability, and knowledge continuity.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
- 3-5 years of experience in HR operations, program management, or immigration case management.
- Demonstrated experience managing employment-based immigration processes and working with external immigration counsel or service providers.
- Proven program and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong proficiency with Microsoft tools, including Excel, SharePoint, Teams, and Power Automate, for reporting, workflow automation, and process management.
- Excellent communication, organization, stakeholder management, accuracy, and confidentiality skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting HR operations and/or immigration in a high-growth technology or semiconductor company.
- Familiarity with global mobility and cross-border immigration processes beyond the United States.
- PMP, SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, or related certification.
- Strong analytical mindset with a track record of process improvement and operational scaling.
- Experience working with HRIS platforms, service desk tools such as Jira, and workflow or case-management systems.
Salary range is $117,000 to $130,000 depending on experience, level, and business need. This role may be eligible for discretionary bonus, incentives and benefits.
