The ideal candidate understands how to build meaningful relationships within the behavioral healthcare community and can turn those relationships into consistent referral activity. This individual will work closely with admissions, marketing, outreach, and leadership to develop new opportunities and strengthen the organization's presence in the market.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain relationships with treatment providers, therapists, physicians, hospitals, community organizations, and other referral sources.
- Conduct proactive outreach to prospective referral partners and healthcare professionals.
- Generate and qualify new opportunities through calls, email, networking, social outreach, and community engagement.
- Maintain consistent follow-up with prospective and existing referral partners.
- Represent the organization at community events, conferences, networking opportunities, and professional meetings.
- Identify gaps within existing referral networks and develop strategies for expanding market presence.
- Coordinate closely with admissions to ensure qualified referrals and leads are properly communicated and tracked.
- Partner with marketing on outreach initiatives, messaging, campaigns, and brand awareness.
- Maintain accurate records of outreach activity, referrals, conversations, and follow-up within the CRM.
- Track outreach performance and identify opportunities to improve referral activity and conversion.
- Maintain a strong understanding of available treatment programs, services, and clinical criteria.
- Monitor market activity, industry trends, community needs, and potential growth opportunities.
Ideal Candidate
- 3+ years of experience in business development, outreach, sales, or behavioral healthcare referral relations.
- Behavioral health, mental health, or substance use treatment experience strongly preferred.
- Established understanding of the behavioral healthcare referral landscape.
- Demonstrated ability to build and maintain professional referral relationships.
- Comfortable with proactive outreach, networking, and developing new relationships from the ground up.
- Experience working with CRM systems and managing an active outreach pipeline.
- Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
- Highly organized with the ability to independently manage follow-up and territory activity.
- Professional, emotionally intelligent, and comfortable discussing behavioral health treatment services.
- Resilient, adaptable, and motivated by measurable growth and results.
What We're Looking For
This role is best suited for someone who is comfortable being out in the market, developing relationships and creating opportunities
rather than waiting for referrals to come in.
We are looking for a BDR who understands that successful behavioral health business development requires a combination of relationship building, consistent follow-up, market knowledge, and accountability for results.
The right candidate will be able to represent the organization professionally while developing a strong network of referral partners and helping connect individuals with appropriate treatment resources.
