    Salary: $62,100 annually

    Fort Greene Council, Inc. (FGC) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization established in Brooklyn, New York in 1973. FGC provides services across the lifespan, including early childhood education and comprehensive programming for older adults.

    FGC operates fifteen (15) Older Adult Centers across seven Brooklyn community districts, as well as one early childhood education center, Young Minds UPK-4.

    Position Summary

    The Bookkeeper maintains accurate and complete financial records for Fort Greene Council, Inc. This position records and reviews financial transactions, reconciles accounts, processes and verifies invoices, monitors petty cash, assists with financial reporting, and supports the organization's overall accounting and fiscal operations.

    The Bookkeeper is also responsible for maintaining accurate records within organizational databases and electronic filing systems, including Vive and Google Drive, while ensuring confidentiality, accuracy, and proper recordkeeping.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    Bookkeeping & Financial Records

    Maintain complete and accurate records of financial transactions, including income, expenses, deposits, payments, and other bookkeeping activities.

    Record financial transactions and maintain supporting documentation in accordance with established accounting procedures.

    Review, enter, and process invoices and bills for accuracy and completeness.

    Verify calculations on invoices, deposits, fees collected, receipts, and other financial documentation and correct discrepancies as necessary.

    Assist with account reconciliations and ensure discrepancies are researched and resolved in a timely manner.

    Assist with the preparation of monthly expenditure projections and other financial reports.

    Maintain accurate records of accounts payable and other financial transactions.

    Monitor and maintain petty cash funds, including appropriate receipts and supporting documentation.

    Assist with month-end and year-end accounting activities as assigned.

    Maintain organized financial records and supporting documentation for audits, monitoring visits, and internal reviews.

    Assist the Controller and Fiscal Department with special projects, financial analysis, and reporting as requested.

    Database & Records Management

    Maintain accurate organizational records within Vive, Google Drive, and other applicable databases and electronic recordkeeping systems.

    Perform routine data maintenance and cleanup, including reviewing records, correcting inaccuracies, merging duplicate records when appropriate, and monitoring data for completeness and accuracy.

    Assist with database updates, system improvements, and implementation of revised recordkeeping procedures.

    Identify data discrepancies or system issues and report them to the appropriate supervisor or technical support personnel.

    Develop and prepare special reports upon request.

    Maintain organized electronic and physical records in accordance with organizational policies and applicable record-retention requirements.

    Qualifications

    Candidates must meet one of the following education and experience requirements:

    Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field and at least one (1) year of relevant office, bookkeeping, or accounting experience; OR

    Associate degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field and at least one (1) year of relevant office, bookkeeping, or accounting experience; OR

    At least 30 college credits and a minimum of three (3) years of relevant office, bookkeeping, accounting, or financial recordkeeping experience.

    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

    Working knowledge of bookkeeping and basic accounting principles.

    Experience with QuickBooks is required.

    Proficiency in Microsoft Word and working knowledge of Microsoft Excel.

    Experience with financial and accounting software and computerized recordkeeping systems.

    Ability to accurately process invoices, payments, receipts, deposits, and financial records.

    Strong mathematical, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

    Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.

    Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.

    Ability to maintain confidential and sensitive information.

    Ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively with the Fiscal Department and other organizational staff.

    Strong written and verbal communication skills.

    Experience working in a nonprofit or government-funded environment is preferred.
