Pay Range: $65,000 - $70,000/annual compensation

Basic Job Function:

The Benefits & Talent Manager will be responsible for the overall applicant recruiting experience, from initial application, candidate review, job offer, to colleague onboarding. They will also be responsible for overseeing the company's benefits plans, and safety program, including workers' compensation. The manager will be responsible for strategizing with management on open requisitions, interview processes, and offer selection phases. Responsibilities will include interfacing with third party leave vendors, education about leave programs to managers and colleagues, and ensuring that leave processes are completed in a timely and accurate manner. They will also be responsible for representing the company at external recruitment partnerships, fairs, and events, and serve as a liaison with our community partners.

Position Requirements

Essential Job Functions:

  • Prepares requisitions for new and existing job positions
  • Actively screens and reviews applications for appropriate forwarding to management
  • Analyzes applications for experience, and fit within the organization
  • Collects data and notes from management team, to support or refute job offers to prospective candidates
  • Dispositions candidates after job requisitions have been filled, cancelled, or placed on hold
  • Offers job to prospective candidates, and may engage in the negotiation process regarding salary, wages, or benefits
  • Communicates with applicants, and new colleagues regarding onboarding processes
  • Serves as a liaison between candidate and manager during the onboarding process
  • Conducts colleague onboarding and non-bargaining benefits sessions
  • Participates in New Colleague Orientation, presenting bargaining unit staff members with information regarding benefits
  • Administers enrollments and terminations for non-bargaining colleagues, and facilitates paperwork through union health plans for bargaining unit colleagues
  • Assists colleagues with inquiries related to benefits, labor relations, and employee relations issues
  • Communicates with payroll, regarding the processing of sick leave, vacation, and leave of absence requests
  • Oversees leaves including Hawaii Family Leave Law, Family Medical Leave Act, Personal Leaves of Absence, and Workers' Compensation leave
  • Completes various forms related to leave, including third party leave administrators, TDI, verifications of employment, benefits, and pension plans
  • Processes, files, and follows up on relevant information related to Workers' Compensation claims, and the management of return to work programs
  • Works closely with WC carrier, to ensure the flow of information of medical documentation and other WC notations
  • Assists in the creation and facilitation of leave administration and WC training programs
  • Maintains reports and logs, including OSHA 300, Workers' Compensation log, etc
  • Oversees and process monthly benefits invoices
  • Works with the Director of Safety to host monthly safety meetings, safety minutes, and proactively train safety procedures throughout the property
  • Provides secondary support for labor relations/employment and exit processing
  • Prepares and records COBRA administration and notices
  • Completes and processes yearly Affordable Care Act requirements

Additional Duties/Requirements:

  • Report all suspicious persons or activities and hazardous or unsafe conditions to the Security Department.
  • Provide instruction and/or guidance for guest and employee safety in fire or other emergency situations.
  • Respond to guest questions. Provide guest assistance, direction and information as requested when working in public areas.
  • Maintains an open line of communication between guests and management.
  • Performs any general cleaning tasks using standard hotel cleaning products as assigned by the supervisor.
  • Possess a friendly, courteous and professional manner in all dealings with guests, patrons and other employees
  • Knowledgeable of, and actively support the goals of the department as well as the company as a whole to ensure high quality and consistent uncompromised service
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with all partners and vendors
  • Ability to speak publicly and be comfortable in larger event settings
  • Ability to work independently, following verbal and written instructions, procedures and SOP
  • Performs a variety of other duties as assigned by Director of Human Resources

Other Requirements:

  • Ability to work varying shifts and maintain attendance in accordance with the hotel's attendance policy.
  • Ability to comply with all hotel rules and regulations including policies regarding safety and grooming standards.
  • Must maintain a neat, clean and well-groomed appearance as outlined in the employee handbook.

Education/Training Requirements:

  • High School Diploma, General Education Diploma, or equivalency required
  • Four (4) year college degree, in Human Resources or Business Administration, preferred

Experience/Skill Requirements:

  • One (1) to two (2) years of Human Resources experience required
  • One (1) to two (2) years Benefits Administration experience required
  • Prior hospitality experience preferred, but not required
  • Previous experience in a luxury, medium to large resort, preferred

Licenses/Certifications:

  • CPR and Standard First Aid Certification preferred

  • Ability to effectively operate various office equipment (i.e. facsimile, copy machine, telephone)
  • Ability to operate a keyboard and computer procedures to handle cashier functions.
  • Ability to type a minimum of 40 wpm.
  • Ability to operate a telephone and copy machine.
  • Ability to pay attention to detail, work in a fast paced environment, handle multiple tasks, and have a high level of patience.
  • Ability to multi task, completing current task while reviewing the next task due.
  • Ability to recognize and remember additional supplies may be needed while still in the process of completing the existing task.
  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment coupled with maintaining a positive work attitude and being able to be cordial, polite and professional with fellow co-workers and guests.

Communication Requirements:

  • Ability to communicate in English language, both verbally and in writing in a professional manner.
  • Ability to deal effectively speak in public
