Payrate: $37.90 - $37.90/hr.
Summary:Biomedicine Design is seeking a laboratory scientist (contingent worker) to support therapeutic antibody discovery programs. This role focuses on executing essential molecular biology workflows that support B cell-based discovery campaigns, immune library generation, and sequence characterization.
Working in a collaborative laboratory environment, the successful candidate will execute established molecular biology protocols—such as nucleic acid isolation, PCR amplification, cloning, and sample purification—and assist in preparing samples for Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) and automated workflows. This is an exciting opportunity for an early-career scientist to apply core molecular biology skills to biotherapeutic discovery while gaining hands-on exposure to cutting-edge sequencing and laboratory automation technologies
.
Responsibilities:- Molecular biology support: Execute established molecular biology workflows, including RNA/DNA isolation from cell samples, reverse transcription (RT), PCR amplification, and standard molecular cloning.
- Library preparation & sample processing: Assist with the generation and cleanup of immune libraries and amplicons using magnetic beads (e.g., SPRI), restriction digests, and gel purification.
- Sequencing & automation assistance: Support sample preparation and quality control (quantification, sizing) for Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS); assist with running routine protocols on automated liquid handlers.
- Laboratory documentation & operations: Maintain clear, accurate records of experimental procedures and results in electronic laboratory notebooks (ELN); support reagent inventory and daily bench readiness.
- Team collaboration: Prioritize tasks across active discovery timelines and communicate experimental progress and observations to project teammates.
Qualifications:- Bachelor’s (B.S.) or Master’s (M.S.) degree in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Biology, or a related life sciences discipline.
- Years of Experience:
- 0 – 2+ years of hands-on laboratory experience in an academic, biotechnology, or pharmaceutical research setting.
Required Skills:- Hands-on experience with standard molecular biology techniques (such as DNA/RNA extraction, PCR setup, and agarose gel electrophoresis).
- Familiarity with routine nucleic acid purification (e.g., column- or magnetic bead-based cleanups) and quantification methods (e.g., NanoDrop, Qubit).
- Working knowledge of standard molecular cloning principles (e.g., primer design, restriction digests, or Gibson assembly).
- Strong attention to detail, good organizational skills, and thorough record-keeping habits.
Nice-to-Have Skills (Preferred):- Familiarity with or interest in laboratory automation and automated liquid handling platforms (e.g., Hamilton, Biomek, Opentrons).
- Familiarity with Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) library preparation workflows and QC (e.g., TapeStation/Bioanalyzer).
- Experience with or interest in utilizing Python and/or AI tools for data analysis or automation scripting.
- Exposure to B cell workflows, immunology concepts, or antibody discovery methods.
Pay Transparency: The typical base pay for this role across the U.S. is: $37.90 - $37.90/hr. Non-exempt positions are eligible for overtime at a rate of 1.5 times the base hourly rate for all hours worked in excess of 40 in a work week, or as required by state or local law. Final offer amounts, within the base pay set forth above, are determined by factors including your relevant skills, education and experience. Full-time employees are eligible to select from different benefits packages. Packages may include medical, dental, and vision benefits, health savings accounts with qualified medical plan enrollment, 10 paid days off, 3 days paid bereavement leave, 401(k) plan participation with employer match, life and disability insurance, commuter benefits, dependent care flexible spending account, accident insurance, critical illness insurance, hospital indemnity insurance, accommodations and reimbursement for work travel, and discretionary performance or recognition bonus. Sick leave and mobile phone reimbursement provided based on state or local law.
