Azure Data Engineer

We are seeking an Azure Data Engineer for a contract position based in Charlotte, North Carolina. This is a 12+ month engagement supporting a major digital transformation initiative within the Americas Division. You will join the Data Strategy team alongside SMBC Capital Markets and Nikko Securities teams, contributing to the design and development of a strategic data platform on Azure Cloud.

Responsibilities

• Participate in the active development of the data platform in close coordination with the SMBC team, beginning with the establishment of a reference data system for securities and pricing data, and expanding to other data domains.
• Design and implement solutions leveraging Azure cloud services and related technologies to support the data strategy agenda.
• Follow internal development standards and contribute to the overall objectives of the Data Strategy team.
• Develop and optimize data pipelines and ETL/ELT processes to support the strategic platform.

Qualifications

• Required

• 10+ years of relevant experience in data engineering and data platform design.

• Full stack Python/PySpark developer capabilities.

• Proven experience as a Data Engineer with hands-on experience in Azure cloud environments.

• Experience implementing solutions using Azure Data Factory.

• Experience implementing solutions using Azure Data Lake Gen 2.

• Experience implementing solutions using Azure Databases.

• Experience implementing solutions using Azure Data Fabric.

• Experience with API Gateway management.

• Experience implementing solutions using Azure Functions.

• Strong proficiency with Azure Databricks.

• Strong SQL skills and experience with RDBMS or NoSQL databases.

• Experience developing APIs using FastAPI or similar Python frameworks.

• Familiarity with the DevOps lifecycle (git, Jenkins, etc.) and CI/CD processes.

• Strong understanding of ETL/ELT processes.

• Experience in the financial services industry with knowledge of financial instruments, asset classes, and market data.
