JOB FUNCTION/PURPOSE
The Audio Visual (AV) Project Engineer plays a pivotal role in the planning, design, and successful delivery of integrated AV systems. This position bridges the gap between sales, engineering, and installation teams by translating conceptual designs into accurate technical documents, schematics, and installation guides. The salary range for this role is between $85,000.00 - $110,000.00, dependent on relevant education, experience, and other job-related factors.
The Project Engineer is responsible for:
- Evaluating and interpreting architectural drawings and specifications.
- Designing functional AV systems based on client requirements and budget.
- Producing detailed AutoCAD drawings, signal flow diagrams, and engineering documents to guide field installation teams.
- Selecting and specifying equipment and ensuring compatibility, scalability, and compliance with industry standards.
- Coordinating closely with Project Managers and Installation Teams throughout the lifecycle of the project.
- Providing ongoing technical support to field technicians and service teams for system troubleshooting, equipment setup, and commissioning.
- Managing RFIs (Requests for Information), ASIs (Architects Supplemental Instructions), and Project Change Orders with proper documentation and coordination.
- Supporting the Project Manager with technical guidance for field conditions and assisting in resolution of onsite issues.
- Participating in job walks, client meetings, and technical interviews as necessary.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
- Knowledge
- Intermediate to advanced proficiency with AutoCAD .
- Technical design experience in AV, paging, sound masking, and intercom systems.
- Familiarity with Crestron, AMX, Extron, Biamp, QSC, Shure, and Cisco AV solutions.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and Bluebeam Revu.
- Ability to manage project documentation and maintain version control.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Skills and Abilities
- Ability to plan, organize and implement multiple concurrent projects.
- Strong interpersonal and team coordination skills.
- Analytical thinker with problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to interpret specifications, RFI/ASI responses, and change orders accurately.
- Training and Education
- AVIXA CTS required.
- AVIXA AV Design 1 and Math Online desired.
- AVIXA CTS-D desired (must obtain within one year).
- Crestron DMC-E, CTS-CSD, and Biamp Vocia Certification desired.
- OSHA 10 Construction Certification (must obtain within 3 months).
- Experience
- 2-5 years of experience in professional AV engineering and construction environments.
- Direct experience managing RFIs, ASIs, and change order documentation.
- Familiarity with commissioning, testing, and field support procedures.
- Continuing Education
Continuing education is mandatory, including manufacturer certifications, webinars, industry events, and technical training.
ADDITIONAL EXPECTATIONS
- Must be willing to travel to job sites, attend meetings, and perform site evaluations.
- Must maintain professional conduct and safety compliance in all project environments.
- May be required to support evening or weekend projects as scheduled.
