Description of Job Duties
Under the direct supervision of the Director of Athletics Communication, DAC, this position assists with the marketing and promotion of the Colleges 26 intercollegiate NCAA Division III sports programs as well as managing home events by keeping official statistics, managing a livestream, authoring press releases, maintaining program record books, and assisting in overseeing the athletic website as well as other duties at the request of the DAC. A graduate assistant will serve as the primary contact for a select number of sports while gaining experience with all 26 programs throughout the two years.
The successful candidate will be placed in a position of leadership as a public representative of the College and that responsibility will go hand-in-hand with the educational goals of the students degree program. You will interact with a diverse community of student-athletes, faculty, and staff members of the media, visitors to campus, and representatives of other institutions. You will work within groups, lead groups, and think critically to solve challenges that come up as we host athletic events on campus in real-time.
A student in the Organizational Leadership program will build skills in the management of people, communicating within groups, and leading groups of students and other support staff much of which is done independently after initial training. The successful candidate will contribute substantively to planning and long-term decision-making for the department.
A student in the Professional and Creative Writing program will gain extensive experience writing for publication to internal and external stakeholders and participate in a collaborative review and editing process intended to improve skills and confidence from an athletics and college lens.
A student in the Sports Leadership program will gain experience in all areas of collegiate athletics and maintain working relationships with administrators, faculty, and staff. Our department works closely with the athletic department on planning and scheduling for large events, providing staff members a global view of the day-to-day functions in athletics.
A student in the MBA program will gain practical applications for the problem-solving skills and management techniques taught within the MBA program as well as experience with the marketing and promotion of Cardinal athletics on social media, the Colleges athletic website, and other channels. The GA will be given ownership of their area of responsibility and will be expected to independently manage those tasks, learning to distinguish between problems they can solve on their own and items for discussion with the full staff.
