Associate R&D Research Scientist

Pay Range: $37.85hr - $42.85hr

Job Overview:

As the Associate Research Scientist contractor, the successful candidate will assist in day-to-day experimental work including the execution of bench experiments and the gathering and assembly of data under the guidance of experienced scientists. Working in a team setting, the candidate will primarily be involved in Research and Development projects, assisting in translating research ideas and concepts into the product development pipeline towards the development of multi-cancer early detection solutions.

There is a contractor opportunity at the Cancer Diagnostics Division to develop innovative NGS-based multi-cancer early detection solutions that improve clinical test access, quality, and performance for patients.

Essential Duties:

Essential duties include but are not limited to the following:

• Participate in assay verification and validation study for new product versions.
• Conduct bench level experiments within a specific product or technology area.
• Generate data; accurately record and analyze results of bench level experiments within a specific product or technology area.
• Operate scientific instrumentation related to performance of duties and notify appropriate personnel of any problems.
• Effectively utilize and apply established methods or technologies.
• Maintain lab notebook in a complete and consistent manner, following all legal, ISO, and QSR requirements, as well as keeping records clear and complete.
• Prepare reports and documentation providing the experimental methods and results.
• Communicate experimental results to supervisor or other scientists.
• Possess potential for technical proficiency, scientific creativity, collaboration with others, and independent thought.
• Exercise judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action.
• Work with project team members on assignments to meet department and project objectives.
• Complete assignments in expected time frames.
• Work in a BSL-2 environment following Biosafety guidelines.
• Communicate project status to project leader.
• Collaborate and work effectively within the team and department.
• Maintain strong attention to detail.

• Support and comply with the organization's Quality Management System policies and procedures.
• Maintain regular and reliable attendance.
• Work nights and/or weekends, as needed.

• Use various types of laboratory equipment including microscopes, microtomes, blades, strainers, and pipettes for extended periods of time.
• Perform repetitious actions using lab tools.
• Travel between organization locations.
• Travel 5% of working time away from work location, which may include overnight or weekend travel.

Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in Life Sciences, Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, Chemical/Physical/Biological Science, or a related field.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
• Authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship.
• Demonstrated ability to perform the essential duties of the position with or without accommodation.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Related Internship.
• 1+ years of related experience.

Physical Requirements(Due to nature of job, The candidate must have):

• Ability to lift 20 pounds.
• Ability to work on a mobile device, tablet, or in front of a computer screen and perform typing for approximately 50% of a typical working day.
• Ability to grasp with both hands.
• Ability to pinch with thumb and forefinger.
• Ability to turn with hand and Client.
• Ability to reach above shoulder height.
• Ability to use near vision to view samples at close range.
