This position offers a unique, challenging, and rewarding experience for highly motivated attorneys.LocationHouston, TexasDutiesAs an Assistant United States Attorney in the Civil Division, you will litigate a broad range of federal civil cases, including immigration enforcement matters, issuing warrants, defending habeas corpus, civil injunctions, asylum, passport cases, and general civil litigation. Responsibilities will grow as training and experience progress and may become more complex.QualificationsJ.D. degree and active membership in any U.S. jurisdiction bar.United States citizen.At least one year of post‑J.D. legal or relevant experience.Preferred QualificationsStrong academic credentials, superior legal research and writing skills.High‑volume courtroom experience, including first‑chair jury trials.Excellent organizational, time‑management, and interpersonal skills.Ability to work collaboratively with other AUSAs, support staff, and investigative agencies.Commitment to professionalism, ethics, civility, and public service.Computer proficiency and ability to conduct independent legal research and drafting.Conditions of EmploymentUnited States citizen or national.Satisfactory pre‑employment adjudication (fingerprint, credit and tax checks, drug testing).Continued employment requires a favorable background investigation adjudication.Selective Service registration, if applicable.Residence in the district to which appointed or within 25 miles of it.Salary and BenefitsSalary: $85,270.00 to $195,100.00 (including locality adjustments).Benefits: Paid vacation, sick leave, holidays, life insurance, health benefits, and participation in the Federal Employees Retiree System.
