Assistant Kitchen Department Head

Reporting to the Kitchen Department Head, the Kitchen Assistant Department Head provides hands-on support to the Kitchen Departments daily operation and management to ensure that it is functioning under good conditions.

T&T Supermarkets is marking over 30 years as Canadas favorite Asian grocery store and recently announced the first store location in the United States. Our growth into the US offers great opportunities within our first US flagship store, set to open in 2024 in Bellevue, Washington in the Marketplace at Factoria, spanning 76,000 sq.ft. and will stand as the largest Asian specialty supermarket in Washington state.

We have additional plans for growth and will also be establishing a regional office in the greater Los Angeles area to grow T&T Supermarkets vendor base with American food suppliers.

Responsibilities

You Will:

• Provide hands-on support and assistance to the Department Head in the following aspects: • Manage department performance and attain departmental goals • Manage and supervise department daily operation and staff performance • Provide coaching, on-the-job training, shadowing, guidance to department staff • Supervise Kitchen Deli Assistants, ensure fair distribution of work and daily checklists are strictly executed • Promoting teamwork and create an inclusive working environment

You are also familiar with products ordering, its process and execution. You will follow the companys pricing principle and partner closely with the pricing strategies of the Merchandising Department. Conduct quality and inventory control, responsible for the cleanliness, hygiene, equipment and tools maintenance follow-up and workplace safety of the department. Oversea product quality, food safety, freshness and ensure FIFO is strictly practiced within the department. Maintain and update UPC pricing, verify and ensure product labeling are properly done. Ensure (BBQ, Hot Foods, Dim Sum, Sushi and/or others) are properly packaged and displayed. Lead by example by performing all hands-on duties required in the Kitchen Department.

Requirements

You Should Have:

• Good communication skills in English, proficiency in Chinese (Cantonese and/or Mandarin) is advantageous.
• Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience, with at least 1 year of supervisory experience preferred, demonstrating leadership capabilities.
• Basic understanding of profit and loss management, has ability to interpret data and market information.
• Good computer skills in MS.
• Well-versed with workplace health and safety protocols.
• Has a keen interest and knowledge in merchandise management and implementation, including inventory control and promotional strategies.
• Familiar with relevant tools and equipment, able to interpret product labels accurately.
• Great organization, problem-solving, interpersonal and customer service skills.
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team.
