We offer you the opportunity to delight millions of TV streamers around the world while gaining meaningful experience across a variety of disciplines.About the role Roku is seeking a seasoned technology transactions attorney with a passion for technology and innovation to be part of a high-performing and collaborative legal team. This position will provide legal support in connection with a wide range of technology transactions for the engineering, supply chain, and operations teams in Roku's TV platform, whole home, and streaming media player businesses.The successful candidate must have experience structuring and negotiating complex technology transactions, understand procurement of technology and components for incorporation into products for sale and distribution, a strong technical background (e.g., a degree in computer science, electrical or computer engineering, semiconductor or other similar disciplines), a good understanding of how technology drives the structure, value and risks in transactions, be well-organized, have attention to detail, have a proven ability to draft agreements from scratch and can handle multiple, complex matters simultaneously and independently without supervision. This is an amazing opportunity to play a key role in supporting the company's rapid growth.This role is based in San Jose, California or Austin, Texas, and reports to the Associate General Counsel, Business & Legal Affairs.What you'll be doing Structure, draft and negotiate a variety of agreements, including manufacturing agreements, strategic sourcing and component (e.g., SoC) supply agreements, patent and technology license agreements, and engineering development and collaboration agreementsNegotiate and draft contracts for the procurement of technology, goods and services for incorporation into Roku's products and servicesLead the agreement-making process, develop and maintain relationships with external partners, and provide strategic and practical legal advice on relevant operational mattersProvide legal advice and counsel on various aspects of Roku's supply chain practices.Support Roku's devices teams on a wide range of legal issues, including contract interpretation, open source counseling, and intellectual property rightsAct as a subject matter expert on intellectual property issues in the context of technology transactionsCollaborate cross-functionally with a wide variety of Roku business units and other legal teamsSupport continuous improvement of forms, policies, and processes to help streamline, simplify, and automate relevant contracting processesKeep up to date on the latest developments in applicable laws, regulations, and industry trendsWe're excited if you have At least 10+ years of technology transactional legal experience at both a law firm and in a corporate legal departmentPast experience supporting engineering, operations, or supply chain teamsSolid understanding of the different types of intellectual property and of related issues in agreementsProven ability to identify, evaluate and provide risk-appropriate solutions to the business based on excellent legal and business judgmentStrong written and verbal communication skills with proven ability to persuade, including the ability to effectively relay complex information in a clear and concise formatDemonstrated ability to work efficiently and independently, prioritizing workflow, meeting deadlines and manage multi-faceted and cross-functional projectsProven track record of learning quickly, taking initiative, working proactively, being resourceful, and taking on additional responsibilityBe a team player who can perform assigned responsibilities with minimal supervisionExperience working in a cross-department, cross-functional role requiring good relationship building skillsPrior experience working with high-growth technology companies is strongly preferredA bachelor's degree in computer science, electrical and computer engineering, semiconductor or other similar disciplinesA Juris Doctorate degree from a U.S. accredited law schoolLicensed to practice law in the State of California or Texas, depending on location of the position.Benefits Roku is committed to offering a diverse range of benefits as part of our compensation package to support our employees and their families.
