    Description

    The Worcester Public Schools is seeking an Assistant Director of English Learners Programs. With the Director, the Assistant Director will be responsible for supporting instructional, social-emotional, linguistic, and family engagement programs across all schools within the district. The Assistant Director will advise the Director on professional development for ESL staff. The Assistant Director will identify and monitor relevant quality assurance data points, including but not limited to student academic performance data, and make data-driven recommendations for improvement to the Director.

    The Assistant Director must have a firm knowledge of second language acquisition and its terminology and an understanding of the needs of English Learners. The candidate must be able to work with a linguistically and culturally diverse group of individuals.

    PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Support system-wide compliance with ELL laws and regulations.
    • Ensure compliance with State and Federal mandates for English Learners.
    • Support all ELL program plans and reports required by state and federal government, including MA DESE, and the Worcester Public Schools.
    • At the direction of the Director, supervise and evaluate instructional coaches and department heads and collaborate with principals to evaluate building-based personnel who provide ELL and dual language services.
    • Contribute to the development of new, revised and/or improved programs and services, based on research, that promote the educational growth and development of all students
    • Assist in the coordination of plans to screen, assign, evaluate, monitor and transition students in TBE, ESL or SEI programs through the use of multiple assessment tools including the WIDA ACCESS and MCAS
    • In conjunction with the Office for Student Accountability and Research and the Director of English Learners, support district and building teams to gather, monitor, and analyze student achievement data associated with English Learners
    • Support the Director in the district's network-wide communication, planning, and implementation of English Learner supports and programming.
    • Provide assistance and guidance to instructional coaches and department heads in the EL department as appropriate and as requested by the individuals or the Director.
    • Remain current in all research-based EL topics and disseminate best practices to all central and school staff.
    • Assist in improving the instructional program through trainings, classroom observation, visitation, and department meetings
    • Work with the Parent Information Center to ensure proper identification of English Learners.
    • Maintain cooperative working relationships with parents and continuous collaboration with staff, other school district personnel and other community service agencies.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.

    SALARY: Based on the Appropriate Lane and Step on the Appendix (V) Salary Schedule - Unit B. The salary range posted is for the Base column (MA-MA+15 degree) with the potential to increase dependent on the highest level of education.

    WORK YEAR: This is a 221 day position. The work year for this position is 180 pupil session days, plus 42 non-pupil session days.
