    The Duck Creek Application Engineering Consultant is responsible for designing, developing, testing, and supporting Duck Creek-based policy administration solutions that enable underwriting, policy processing, and operational workflows. This role partners closely with business and technology teams to deliver scalable, high-quality solutions that support both production operations and strategic initiatives, including new product development, integration with enterprise systems, and platform modernization.

    The position requires strong hands-on experience with Duck Creek configuration and development, deep knowledge of integration patterns and APIs, and the ability to operate at a technical leadership level by influencing architecture and solution design. Additionally, this role is expected to leverage emerging Artificial Intelligence (AI) capabilities to enhance underwriting workflows, improve operational efficiency, and drive innovation across the platform.

    Job Description:

    • Design, develop, test, and deploy enhancements within Duck Creek applications to support underwriting, rating, policy administration, and operational workflows

    • Work hands-on with Duck Creek Manuscripts, including configuration and customization of business rules, rating logic, and policy processing components

    • Develop and maintain integration solutions between Duck Creek and enterprise systems, including workflow management platforms and downstream data pipelines

    • Design, implement, and leverage Duck Creek APIs and services to support:

    • Production releases and operational stability

    • New product implementations and integrations with external agency-facing or customer-facing applications

    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Business Analysts, Product, QA, and IT partners) to translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions

    • Perform root cause analysis and troubleshooting for complex production and integration issues, including identification of defects across carrier layer, base product, and integration layers

    • Support application performance monitoring, tuning, and optimization to ensure high availability and system reliability

    • Participate in software development lifecycle activities including design, development, testing, deployment, and ongoing maintenance

    • Provide technical leadership in working sessions and support coordination with internal teams and external partners

    • Identify opportunities for process improvements, modernization, and enhancement of system capabilities

    • Leverage AI-driven capabilities and tools to improve system efficiency, automate processes, enhance decision-making, and support intelligent underwriting workflows

    • Strong hands-on experience with Duck Creek development, including:

    o Manuscripts configuration and customization

    o Rating, policy processing, and forms-related functionality

    o Proven experience with Duck Creek integrations, including:

    • Workflow management systems
    • Downstream data pipelines and enterprise service ecosystems
    • Deep understanding of Duck Creek APIs and service-oriented architecture, including:

    o RESTful API design and consumption

    o Integration patterns supporting enterprise applications

    • Experience supporting production releases and operational support, including:

    o Incident triage and resolution

    o Performance analysis and system optimization

    • Experience contributing to new product implementation efforts, including configuration, deployment, and integration with external systems
    • Working knowledge of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and advanced automation concepts, including:

    o Applying AI capabilities to business workflows and system integrations

    o Leveraging AI tools for analysis, automation, or productivity improvements

    o Understanding of how AI can enhance underwriting, data processing, or operational decision-making

    Ability to operate at a solution and technical architect level, including:

    • Defining system interaction models and integration patterns across Duck Creek and enterprise platforms
    • Making design decisions related to carrier customization versus base product alignment
    • Evaluating and implementing scalable, maintainable, and reusable architecture solutions
    • Demonstrates strong ownership of delivery, ensuring alignment between technical solutions and business outcomes
    • Collaborates effectively across Business Units, IT shared services, and delivery teams to drive successful implementation outcomes
    • Evaluates opportunities to incorporate AI capabilities into architecture and solution design, ensuring alignment with enterprise standards and long-term strategy

    Qualifications:

    • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Computer Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
    • Minimum of 10 years of experience in software or application development
    • Minimum of 5+ years of hands-on Duck Creek experience in development and configuration
    • Strong experience with application integration, APIs, and enterprise systems
    • Experience with Duck Creek platform upgrades (e.g., 8.0.4, Policy Active Delivery-PAD) or modernization initiatives
    • Experience with large or complex policy processing environments in the Property & Casualty insurance domain
    • Familiarity with event-driven or messaging-based integration frameworks
    • Exposure to AI-driven solutions, automation platforms, or analytics capabilities within enterprise applications
    • Demonstrated ability to lead technical design discussions and mentor team members
    • Demonstrates a strong delivery mindset, balancing speed to market with production stability and quality
    • Ability to work effectively in a highly collaborative, cross-functional environment
    • Strong communication skills with the ability to convey technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
    • Continuous learner with interest in adopting emerging technologies, including AI, to enhance platform capabilities and business outcomes
