Job Details

We are seeking a highly experienced Appellate Attorney to join a Dallas litigation practice. This position is designed for a Texas-licensed attorney with at least 10 years of meaningful appellate experience and exceptional legal research, writing, and analytical abilities.

The attorney will manage complex civil appellate matters while also working alongside trial teams to develop strategy, preserve error, prepare dispositive motions, and position cases for potential appellate review.

Responsibilities:
  • Draft persuasive appellate briefs, petitions, motions, responses, and other complex legal documents
  • Conduct extensive legal research and analyze difficult procedural and substantive issues
  • Develop appellate strategy for matters pending in Texas and federal courts
  • Present oral arguments before intermediate appellate courts and other reviewing courts
  • Advise clients regarding appellate exposure, procedural options, and potential outcomes
  • Review trial records and identify preserved or potentially appealable issues
  • Collaborate with litigation teams before and during trial to preserve error
  • Assist with dispositive motions, jury charges, motions in limine, post-verdict motions, and related trial matters
  • Monitor changes in appellate procedure, controlling precedent, and developing areas of Texas law
  • Evaluate the merits of appeals, mandamus proceedings, and post-judgment remedies
  • Provide guidance to attorneys across multiple civil litigation practice areas
  • Cover trials and hearings when appellate or error-preservation support is needed

Qualifications:
  • Juris Doctor from an accredited law school
  • Active Texas Bar license in good standing
  • At least 10 years of appellate litigation experience
  • Substantial experience handling civil appeals in Texas state courts
  • Federal appellate experience strongly preferred
  • Board Certification in Civil Appellate Law is highly preferred
  • Exceptional legal research, writing, editing, and analytical skills
  • Experience drafting appellate briefs, petitions for review, mandamus petitions, and post-judgment motions
  • Strong knowledge of Texas appellate procedure and error preservation
  • Oral argument experience before appellate courts
  • Ability to evaluate extensive trial records and distill complex issues clearly
  • Strong judgment, attention to detail, and client-communication skills
  • Comfortable working independently and collaborating with trial teams
  • Interest in trial coverage and supporting litigation teams before and during trial
