The Bartender is an essential member of the Food & Beverage team dedicated to providing exceptional quality and service to our guests. The Bartender assures each guest is greeted promptly, courteously, and graciously with eye contact and a smile. With their knowledge of all products served, the bartender provides patrons and servers with quick and efficient beverage service, following the state and city alcohol laws.
Job Duties
Deliver a consistently high level of customer service to each guest and maintain a safe environment.
Keep bar area clean in accordance with the company’s guidelines as well as the requirements of the local health department.
Maintain an accurate cash drawer throughout the night and be able to account for any and all discrepancies in the final drawer tally.
Mix all drinks based on the serving sizes as outlined in the company manual to keep drink costs at a minimum.
Develop an efficient work pace that keeps the customers at the bar and in the dining room satisfied at all times.
Provide excellent customer service by taking food and drink orders efficiently, delivering food and drink items in a timely manner and with a smile.
Bartender is required to know menu items to be able to answer any questions guests may have.
Maintain complete knowledge of and comply with all departmental policies/service procedures/standards.
Maintain complete knowledge of correct maintenance and use of equipment. Use equipment only as intended.
Anticipate guests’ needs, respond promptly, and acknowledge all guests, however busy and whatever time of day.
Maintain positive guest relations at all times.
Be familiar with all hotel services/features and local attractions/activities to respond to guest inquiries accurately.
Monitor and maintain cleanliness, sanitation, and organization of assigned work areas.
Maintain complete knowledge of and strictly abide by state liquor regulations, particularly those prohibiting service to minors, intoxicated persons, and drunk driving.
Maintain complete knowledge of Point-of-Sales (POS) systems and manual systems.
Take guests' alcoholic beverage orders, utilizing suggestive selling techniques, when specified on function requirements.
Record order of guest following departmental service procedures.
Input order into system; legibly document orders when system is down or collect tickets as specified.
Retrieve alcoholic beverage items from bar and serve to guest.
Open and serve wine/champagne bottles.
Make all varieties of coffee.
Complete closing side duties: a) Breakdown all goods as specified, b) Clean all equipment as assigned, c) Restock items for next service, d) Properly store all reusable goods, e) Remove all dirty linen and transport to Laundry, f) Marry and stock all condiments, g) Secure storage areas.
Adhere to payment, cash handling, and credit policies/procedures.
Qualifications
One year minimum bartending/serving experience is required. Previous bartending experience in a hospitality setting is a definite plus
Strong working knowledge of Bourbons.
High school diploma or GED equivalent.
Minimum 20 years of age to serve alcoholic beverages
Fluency in English both verbal and non-verbal
Provide legible communication
Compute basic arithmetic
Willing to perform job functions with attention to detail, speed, and accuracy
Ability to prioritize and organize tasks
Ability to think clearly, can remain calm, and solve problems using good judgment
Ability to follow specific directions thoroughly
Desire to understand guests’ service needs
Ability to work cohesively with co-workers as part of a team
Ability to work with minimal supervision
Ability to maintain confidentiality of guest information and pertinent hotel data
Desirable:
Certification of previous training in liquor, wine, and food service
Fluency in a foreign language, preferably
Certification in an alcoholic awareness program
Certification in CPR
Ability to suggestively sell
Ability to input and access information in the property management system/computers/point of sales system.
