Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit

The primary purpose of Electric Distribution Systems (EDS) is the distribution of electricity to the various buildings on the University campus and to the UNC Hospitals. This is accomplished through a complex system of 12kV underground circuits in duct banks run all over campus, which is controlled and protected by a modern relay and control system. EDS is part of Energy Services.

Position Summary

This multifaceted position provides specialized support to 30+ permanent full/part-time employees plus temporary workers, affiliates and its management team. This position is responsible for overseeing Electric Distribution Systems (EDS) work management processes; internal tracking of purchases and invoicing, equipment repairs & maintenance, inventory, and assisting with budget development and monitoring for an annual budget of $28 million. This position assists the EDS Manager and Engineering staff with updating and tracking metering data, which is used to measure performance and efficiency. Position also provides support and assistance to other workgroups within Energy Services.

This position facilitates daily office operations and ensures expenditures are tracked and controlled, monitors all contracts (maintenance, chemical, uniform, etc.), monitors facility services and charges, provides asset management tracking and reporting, manages policy and compliance for records archiving, provides TIM (Time Information Management) assistance to employees, tracks employee parking permits, state tags and vehicle maintenance/upkeep schedules

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

High school diploma or equivalency and one year of related office experience; or equivalent combination of training and experience.

Management Preferences

MANAGEMENT PREFERENCES:

  • Proficient in the use of MAXIMO (computerized work management system) or other similar work management system.
  • Familiarity with university and state purchasing policies.
  • Broad knowledge of UNC financial systems.
  • Expert user of MS Office, specifically advanced knowledge of Excel.
  • Skills such as communication, attention to detail, organizational and/or multitasking skills, independent judgement, problem solving, accountability and professionalism.

Required Licenses/Certifications Special Physical/Mental Requirements

Bending, stooping and/or lifting up to 25 lbs.

Ability to wear PPE as required when entering the industrial environment (closed toed shoes, safety glasses, etc.).
