The Accounting Manager is a critical leadership position designed to elevate our client’s financial and operational maturity. This individual will own the technical accounting function, spearhead audit-readiness frameworks, and design the communication rhythms necessary for a high-accountability culture. We are seeking a professional who balances technical GAAP mastery with an operational mindset to anticipate risks and lead through growth.
Core Responsibilities
1. Financial Close Excellence
Direct the complete month-end close cycle to ensure high-velocity accuracy.
Redesign workflows to eliminate bottlenecks and standardize deliverables.
Ensure all reconciliations and financial schedules meet rigorous precision standards.
2. Proactive Audit & Compliance
Transform audit preparation from a seasonal event into a year-round "ready" state.
Maintain robust internal controls compliant with GAAP and non-profit grant requirements.
Serve as the primary liaison for external auditors, resolving potential issues before they escalate.
3. Specialized Grant & Fund Accounting
Manage complex restricted/unrestricted fund structures and program allocations.
Oversee revenue recognition and donor-specific compliance.
Provide the accurate data foundations required for budgeting and long-term forecasting.
4. Systems Architecture
Lead the implementation and optimization of accounting software and reporting tools.
Author and maintain comprehensive process documentation to ensure operational continuity.
Automate manual workflows to increase departmental efficiency.
5. Strategic Leadership
Foster a culture of radical transparency, escalating risks and delays proactively.
Mentor finance staff, promoting a growth mindset and self-awareness within the team.
Partner with cross-functional departments to align financial deadlines with organizational goals.
Requirements
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance (CPA or MBA preferred).
Experience: 5+ years of progressive experience, with a focus on non-profit or grant-heavy accounting.
Knowledge: Expert-level understanding of GAAP and non-profit financial reporting.
Systems: Proven track record of improving or implementing financial software systems.
