Accounting Manager


Location: Halethorpe, MD
Compensation: $100,000 - $115,000 Base Salary + 10% Bonus (historically pays above target)
Schedule: Fully Onsite with Flexibility to Work from Home as Needed

Our client is seeking an experienced Accounting Manager to join their growing finance team in Halethorpe, MD. This is an excellent opportunity for a hands-on accounting professional who enjoys leading processes, mentoring staff, and partnering with leadership to drive financial performance and operational improvements.


Reporting directly to the Director of Finance, the Accounting Manager will oversee the month-end close process, financial reporting, staff development, and key accounting functions while helping guide the organization through its next phase of growth.


Key Responsibilities



  • Lead and manage the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting

  • Supervise and mentor accounting staff, providing guidance, training, and professional development

  • Review journal entries, account reconciliations, accruals, and supporting schedules

  • Oversee revenue recognition, work-in-process (WIP) accounting, and project financial reporting

  • Manage balance sheet integrity through detailed account reconciliation and analysis

  • Partner with operational leaders to provide financial insights and support strategic decision-making

  • Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis

  • Coordinate annual audits and serve as a key point of contact for external auditors

  • Evaluate and strengthen internal controls, accounting policies, and procedures

  • Drive process improvement initiatives to increase efficiency and enhance reporting capabilities

  • Support special projects, system enhancements, and future growth initiatives


Qualifications



  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance

  • 7+ years of progressive accounting experience

  • Prior experience leading projects, mentoring staff, or supervising accounting personnel

  • Strong understanding of GAAP, month-end close, financial reporting, and account reconciliations

  • Experience managing or reviewing accounting operations in a fast-paced environment

  • Advanced Excel skills and strong systems aptitude

  • Experience with ERP/accounting software; Sage 300 experience is a plus

  • CPA strongly preferred

  • Excellent communication and leadership skills with the ability to collaborate across all levels of the organization
