Description

Texas A&M University College of Nursing invites applications for a full-time academic professional track (non-tenure) faculty position at our Bryan, Texas campus. The successful candidate will have experience in expeditionary missions, humanitarian aid, or aerospace nursing and academic nursing education. Preferred areas of experience or interest include care delivery in extreme environments, such as desert, jungle, arctic, alpine, disaster, low-intensity conflict, marine, or space. Responsibilities include teaching in graduate and undergraduate programs, commensurate with the candidates credentials and experience. This 9-month appointment begins in August 2026 and offers the possibility of a summer contract. Applicants will be considered for the faculty title of Clinical Assistant Professor, Clinical Associate Professor, or Clinical Professor. Salary will be determined based on qualifications and experience.

The College of Nursing offers a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (Traditional, Second degree, and RN to BSN), MSN-Family Nurse Practitioner, MSN-Nursing Education, MSN-Forensic Nursing, DNP-Leadership, graduate certificate in Forensic Health Care and post-graduate certificates in FNP, PMHNP and AGACNP. Future plans include a PhD program, a DNP in Extreme Environment Nursing, and additional graduate and post-graduate certificate programs. We are a growing college offering academic programs, certificates and continuing education in Bryan-College Station, McAllen, Round Rock and online.

The College of Nursing is one of five colleges that comprise the Texas A&M Health Science Center. Job Responsibilities Include:

Academic Professional Track (APT) Faculty members are expected to contribute significantly to teaching, service, and scholarship within the College of Nursing. Specific responsibilities include:

Teaching: APT faculty maintain high standards in classroom, clinical, simulation, and online instruction. Responsibilities include preparing and revising course materials and assessments that foster student learning, selecting and managing high-quality clinical and simulation experiences, and providing competent clinical supervision. Faculty also evaluate student performance, provide academic advising and mentoring, maintain posted office hours, and collaborate and mentor faculty colleagues. Additionally, faculty are expected to develop new courses consistent with curricular and accreditation standards and support ongoing academic program accreditation efforts.

Scholarship: APT faculty are expected to engage in scholarly activities that advance nursing education, clinical practice, or health outcomes. Scholarship may include contributions to evidence-based practice, presentations, publications, or other activities that support the academic mission of the College. Faculty are encouraged to demonstrate ongoing professional development and innovation in their teaching and scholarly work.

Service: Service activities for APT faculty may include active participation on college or university committees, involvement in accreditation or self-study initiatives, advising student organizations, and engaging in clinical practice where appropriate. Faculty are also expected to collaborate within the college community and contribute to initiatives that promote the Colleges mission and excellence in nursing education.

The anticipated start date is August 1, 2026.

Qualifications

Required Education:

Earned doctorate (DNP or PhD) in nursing. PhD in a related field is acceptable with at least one graduate degree in nursing (e.g., MSN, MN, MS in Nursing)

Required Registrations, Certifications and Licenses:

Candidate must be eligible for a Texas RN and/or APRN license depending upon credentials

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Experience teaching academic nursing at the baccalaureate level or higher

Experience providing clinical instruction at the baccalaureate level or higher

Two or more years of recent nursing practice experience

Demonstrated clinical expertise in nursing

Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Experience in nursing specialty area related to Extreme Environment Nursing (including but not limited to austere/expeditionary nursing, disaster nursing & response, flight and transport nursing, aerospace nursing/medicine, military nursing, wilderness nursing/medicine, global or humanitarian health, dive/undersea nursing, etc.)

Professional certification in nursing specialty area related to Extreme Environment Nursing (including but not limited to CEN, CFRN, Wilderness Medicine, AWLS, ATLS, CHRN, DMT, TNCC, etc.)

Preferred areas of experience or interest include extreme environments such as desert, jungle, arctic, alpine, disaster settings, low-intensity conflict, marine, or space.

Experience teaching academic nursing at the graduate level

Certification in simulation-based education

Experience in simulation-based education, especially in resource-limited settings

Leadership in multidisciplinary expedition or humanitarian teams

Research or publication in extreme/adverse environment health
